Elective Csection?

Hi there, my mother had 2 elective c sections for me and my sister, IM like my mum in almost 100% of herself, I could pass as her twin! My question is, Im convinced I am going to have to have a planned CSection as mum did and wondered if anybody else on here has had this, if so when did you find out, and what were your reasons for having to have one, thanks in advance for the info, Steph xx

They dont give elective c sections easily so you may not end up with one. My eldest was born by emergency c section. Me and my midwife both thought the best option for my youngest was an elective but the consultant wouldnt have it. It was only when we found out at 35 weeks he had turned breech that the consultant decided that given my past history I would be having an elective c section. In my situation it is too risky to attempt to turn a breech baby or to try to deliver a breech baby. So at 35 weeks I was told my elective date. Turns out it was all a waste of time anyway coz I fell a week later and my son arrived by emergency c section that night!

i had an emergency ceaserian with my first daughter and when i fell pregnant the 2nd time i opted for an elective but i dont think they will do a c section unless there is a risk to you or the baby the reason i was given the choice for a 2nd c section was because i had already had one.and now i am pregnant for a 3rd time i wish i hadnt chosen a c section last time round as i would have liked to be able to experience labour c sections are not a good as they sound they are lot more painful for a lot longer

Hello
Due to my 2nd baby being 10lb 7oz and the fact that she got stuck I ahd a caesarean for number 3 (11 lb 3oz - he was breech). I am having my fourth by caesarean at approximately week 38/39 (am still to get confirmation of date) due to predicted size. It is rare for caesareans to be performed other than for medical reasons - however if a woman is experiencing severe panic / stress regarding the prospect of an 'active' birth and large babies run in the family it is possible to have a more accurate scan to predict the babies weight. I get gestational diabetes and therefore am measured fortnightly - to enusre an accurate measurement the sonographer needs to plot the abdomen size (the leg and head measurements are not useful).
I hope this helps.

after an infection in the placenta and 14 hours of failed induction i ended up with c section with my son who was born at 35 weeks fine but they over dosed me on the spinal which stopped my heart for a few mins then i had a massive haemorage. my son oliver is now 9 months old and im 7 months pregnant n dont want a c section again. ppl dont realise how hard a c section is. its not an easy way out at all.it was bl00dy horrible.

What are your reasons for wanting a c section??? Is it just because your mum had them??. I had emergency c section after 30 hours in labour with a 9lb 10oz baby, to behonest, i know people can have a bad time with c sections, but mine was absolutely fab! i had her on sat and was discharged on monday and have had no probs whatsoever! in fact it was such a positive experience i am going to have one next time. I realise i am probably lucky to have such an easy time.

I think unless u have medical reasons it is selfish and lazy to have a c section.sum women have no choice

Hi Hun, I ahd a elective c-sec 8 wks ago, I had 3 prev 3rd degree tears everything was too weak to have a normal labour and i was told i would be incontinent back and front (sorry!)
basically you cant ask for a c-sec just because you want one there has to be amedical reason or a risk to mother or baby. maybe try labour of course its not nice but too be honest c-sec isnt the easy option! you may surprise yourself with the labour good luck

As with everyones elses comments, you can't just choose to have a c-section.
I don;t really know why you would want to opt for one if you are ok to give birth naturally.
At least with a natural birth you can be up and about.
I had to have a C-Section with my 1st because he was breech - but the recovery time afterwards is far longer than a natural birth.
Also just because your mum had one doesn;t mean you will be the same.
