Caesarean sectionC-sections!!!!
Hi everyone!! Im currently pregnant with my 2nd baby! I had to have an emergency c-Section with my first baby- it was very scary! Im currently under consultant care with this prgnancy. He is telling me that i need to do natural birth. But im very scared that i wil end up needing another emergency section. Im told that i can opt for a planned section but my consultant doesnt seem to want me to have one. Im just worried i supose!!!
Hi Naomi, congratulations on your pregnancy. Like you I had to have an emergency section with my last baby, due to non-progression which they think was caused by my fibroids. We are currently trying for another baby and having spoken to my consultant he said he would be happy for me to try for a natural delivery next time (if we are lucky enough to get pregnant!!) and I would prefer to try for natural purely to avoid the 2 night hospital stay so I could get home to my little man sooner and have a quicker recovery time.
Its all down to personal choice, if you would really prefer to have a section then you can ask for one, but your consultant wouldn't advise you to go for a natural delivery unless he was happy that everything was ok.
There are risks with any operation obviously and then if you opted for natural delivery there is slight risk of rupture to your previous c-section scar, but its only a very small risk.
I don't know how far along you are but maybe you could chat to your midwife about it and discuss it further with your consultant at your next appointment.
But try not to worry, whichever way you decide to go I'm sure they will take very good care of you! :-)))xx
plenty of women have a successful VBAC and i am sure most of them worry it'll end up with another section and then are so glad when they took the chance for a normal delivery and it worked out perfectly well! your consultant obviously isnt concerned if he is happy for you to try for a natural delivery. natural delivery is much better for you and baby so it is definitely worth trying and you may discover that your worries were unfounded when you push your baby out on your own! it's easy for me to say as i didnt have a section with my first baby but id certainly want to try for a natural delivery 2nd time round if i had had to have a section with the first.
my daughter was a forceps delivery. i am now 29 wks pregnant with my 2nd and am desperately hoping this one will come out on her own as i really want to experience the moment of chidlbirth this time given last time i couldnt feel anything due to the spinal!
definitely talk to your midwife about your concerns though. good luck x
Hi you can opt for another planned c-section if you really want to, and the consultant can't force you, if you are feeling pressured you could ask to see a different consultant.

Hiya hun! i had an emergency section with my first baby almost 4 years ago now, the reason i had it was for failure to progress-she was back to back and after 30 hours of contractions one after the other i still wasnt dilated enough so i begged for section, when she was born she was 9lb 10oz so unsure whether id have been abe to part with her naturally anyway!!. Anyway when i got preg again i was adament i wanted elective section, i like you was under consultant care and when i saw him, i was kind of talked into natural, they said theres no reason why it would happen again and i had every chance of a natural delivery, however if i went overdue they wouldn't induce me, they would just give me an elective section-as induction can put too much strain on your scar. What persuaded me to try natural was, i wouldnt be in hospital as long(hopefully!) i would be able to pick Milly up etc and drive. anyway! on 9th sep last year after an 18 hour labour i had my second daughter naturally with hardly any probs, i had her at 23.01 and was discharged next day to be home with Milly.
Obv if you are adament that you want a section you need to tell the consultant this and they should let you. But they wouldnt be trying to talk you into natural if they didnt think you could do it!!
Good luck!

HI,
You can opt for a section if you have already had one and you consultant cannot force you to have a natural birth!
I understand you concerns as I too had to have an emergency section with my first LO due to him getting distressed (my labour was induced, he was only 5lb 3oz so he wasn't coping with the force of the contractions) . .the whole experience was REALLY scary, I wasn't monitored correctly, my OH knew there was something wrong but the Dr's wouldn't come and see me. . .my OH had to literally carry the Dr into my room and as soon as she saw the heart tracing she immediately ordered a section . . We too don't want to go through that again but I would really like to experience the moment of child birth . . I have talked to my consultant and MW about this and they REALLY wont advise you to have a natural birth unless they don't see any risks as my consultant is advising me against a natural birth as she thinks a section would be a much safer option for me :( (this baby has to come 2 weeks early and they won't induce you if you have previously had a section, she is also going to be small . .this along with the small risk of the scar tips the favour towards an elective section :( )
If you feel you are being forced to have a natural birth and you really don't want that then you should ask to see another consultant or just go in there and make yourself clear and don't let him/her talk you out of it!!!
Take care,
I hope you get the birth you want!

Hi
I had an emergancy section with my 1st ( due to non- progression) and am currently 39 weeks with my 2nd. I was determind to have an elective this time, but at my 36 week check, with my consultant spent 20 minutes talking me through the pros and cons of both methods of delivery. It really reasured me that I would be closely monitored during a natural birth and not allowed to go longer than 12 hours. So i've desided to opt for natural birth. Maybe you need to ask your consulant to talk you through how your labour will be managed. But remenber it's your boby and your baby the desition has to be yours.
