Breastfeeding after a section

I am booked in for a section this week at 38+1 weeks. Will I automatically produce milk after this or does the whole labour process bring on the milk?

Thanks Nettie. Didn't find out til late Thursday afternoon, and didn't finish work until Friday, so obviously got all these questions and nobody to ask over the weekend!!!
Was suddenly panicing that in addition to not being able to have I labour, would also not be able to feed the baby when it arrives.

i have had 2 sections and the second time around the milk was slower to come in but it did in the end and didn't make any diff to sam he just got more clostrium and is a big baby from the start. the first timedylan would lack on until the next day and he was fine as well, so don't worry. my tip is get up and moving as soon as they let you norm the next day and remember you will get pain but the more you move the quicker they go, i got home by day 3 both times. good luck x

It may take longer for your milk to come in but you will have colostrum. I had a c-section and breast fed successfully for 7 months. My baby had low blood sugars when she was born so we had to top her up now and again and it does take perseverance but once my milk was in I loved it. I was actually quite sad about stopping but I had to go on meds for post natal depression. Just use the services that are available to support you and remember that to make more milk just feed more often and it will help.
