Routine?

Hi All

At what point are you supposed to establish a routine with your baby? My boy is 6 wks and from 4 wks we hve been trying to do the bath at 6pm then bottle and bed and have been able to stick to it pretty much but we haven't established any kind of structure to his daytime naps so sometimes he sleeps most of the day whilst others he hardly sleep at all.

Also what ages have yur baby's started to sleep through the night?

my son started to sleep through about 12 weeks, I wondered what was wrong when he had't woken! he is now 19 weeks, I can say he will have 2 naps a day usually morning and afternoon, but not at what time. Also he doesn't have his bottles at set times as it all depends on what time he wakes in the morning and whether he's hungry, or sleeping etc. The only routine we have is I get him ready for bed between 7pm and 7.30pm and he normally falls asleep between 8 - 9pm.

what I'm trying to say is I can't make my son drink his bottle and have a nap at certain times. I'm sure when he's older though perhaps when I start to wean things should settle more into a routine

Hi my LO is 16 weeks old & we have a very flexible routine as mazm says above it depends on his waking/nap times as they vary day to day... he's generally been sleeping through since he was about 9 weeks... most mornings he wakes @ about 6:15 when my hubby alarm goes off... then he comes for a cuddle & has his bottle about 7am... we play for an hour or so & then he usually naps about 8:30 - 10:30 then his bottles are approx. every 3 1/2 hrs apart... depending on what we do through the day depends on how often he naps... we usually bath him about 7pm & he generally goes to sleep about 9pm... x

I am a first time mum and my son is now 18 weeks. I was so obsessed with having a routine and got so worried that I didn't have one! I still can't establish a set routine but now I am just going with it. I don't think any baby will have a set routine so early on ( especially in first few weeks) My son started to sleep through at about 10 weeks which was excellent, but daytime naps and feeds were all over the place for a long time. Like the other girls said he depended on when he woke up and what we were doing in day. He now wakes at 7am, feeds at 8am, 11.30, 2pm, 5pm and 7pm, but I am breastfeeding. Sleeps are 9.30am till 11am and sometimes 1pm till 2pm or late in afternoon. The really funny thing is that I have done all this, and it will change again whwn he is on soilids ha ha. Good luck and try to relax, it will happen at some point!!
