Working mums & going back to workApplying for a new job whilst heavily pregnant? Do I really stand a Chance?
Hi all, I am extremely unhappy in my current Job, and desperate to get out if i had the choice I would quit! i have 7working fays until i go on mat leave.
Im a secondary teacher, and a job has been advertised for a Sept 2012 start.
Interveiws will take place on 6th Feb, i will be 32 weeks pregnant. Do you think I'm wasting my time going for it?
Thanks LK.xx
I am not an employer so cannot comment from that point of view! However I would have though that you stood just as good a chance as anyone else with kids! If you are able to show them that you have considered/made childcare arrangements and that you are committed to working after baby is here then I think you should do fine. Not sure if that helps cos its just my opinion but I would have thought it was worth a shot! You have nothing to loose and alot to gain if you get it! X x
Thanks for your comment Suz@nne , very helpful.
If successfully appointed I plan to ask for some flexibility, as in a slightly later start , so i can drop baby & toddler to nursery, but would be happy to make up the time with extra lessons.
Do you think asking for a 20-mins/half hr later start (9am- instead of 8;30, so no tutor group to register) would this be a reasonable request?
Thanks LK
Yeah I wouldn't think that was unreasonable, especially if you are able to make up time elsewhere! Employers have to seen to be making reasonable adjustments to make it possible for working mums! Without asking though you will never know so i would say just go for it and see what happens!!
