Weaning

When is it best to introduce first foods, before, during or after the bottle?

My little boy is a sick baby and I am just about to start on introducing some baby rice. He tends to be very hungry so I don't think I will be able to get him to sit and have a little food before his bottle, but if he has during a break half way I am worried that he will just sick up any food with the last bit of his bottle. But if I wait until after will he be full then and not be interested? Anybody had similar or able to offer any advice please?

Hey. I'm a nursery nurse and at work when we have parents weaning their children we tend to make up baby rice and baby porridge and give them that whilst having the bottle at the side of them. we then give them a spoon of baby rice and leave the bottle there for if and when they want it. Just make a small amount of baby rice up and then give him his bottle as u would. increase the amount of baby rice when he gets used to eating it. hope this helps. Sarah x

HI hun, our daughter had bad reflux and was sick all the time esp after her bottles, because of this we started weaning at 4 months, with baby rice, i always gave the rice after her bottle, though you make up the rice with her milk, so in a way she's getting slightly less milk in her bottle and then getting the solids so i found she always tucked into the rice and loved it, i would only give small amounts of rice to start with and see how he goes, we found that our daughter would still be sick to a degree but what she brought up was always the milk not the rice, and we made the rice a bit thicker then it said simply because the liquids ie milk didn't stay down so well, and this seemed to work for us. Good luck hun xxx
