i have always home made my daughter's meals but i did base the size of the lumps i made in my food on the size of the lumps in jarred food. my daughter (now 11 months) was generally eating the next stage food (well my home made equivalent) earlier than the age stated. she was eating stage 2 (7 months) at 6.5 months, and stage 3 (10 months) at 9.5 months.

i have never had any problems getting my little girl to eat lumpy food. but u will see from looking on these forums that a lot of babies find it a difficult transition. the key is to take it slowly. x

well my little boy is comin on to 25weeks old and when he eats his food he trys 2 chew it even tho theres nothing really 2 chew,i was told 2 try him on stage 2.so i did and i even mashed abit of the lumps but he did not like it he did try and chew it but then gets angry with it and crys so he's not eating alot at the moment,do u think i should leave his on stage 1 for a while or not? xx

it is a difficult one, cos ideally u want to be encouraging them to eat lumps and by giving in and keeping him on stage 1 u obviously arent achieving anything. on the other hand, there is no point in rushing him if he isnt ready. as he is only just 6 months, it may just be a bit soon for him. maybe keep him on stage 1 for another week or so and then give stage 2 another go. really mash the lumps down so that it is almost smooth but with a little bit of texture and then build it up. u may have to keep doing it for a few weeks before u build the lumps back up.

it isnt a race - my sister's eldest wouldnt eat lumpy food until about 9 months, the important thing is just to go at his pace. the last thing u want is for feeding to become a battle between u both. x
