Milk with food ? & weaning

Hi can any one help?

Ive been weaning my daughter who is nearly 7 mth for a while now and every thing is great.

The problem is ive had different opinions on things which has left me confused.

Currently i give my daughter a bottle at 8.30 - 9am with 1/2 weetabix mixed with her milk, between 12- 1pm ive given her a bottle followed by half a jar of baby food. then 4-5pm again another bottle half a jar of food and a dessert (yoghurt or pureed fruit). she stopped taking her bedtime bottle so i make her weetabix mixed with her milk.

A friend advised me that at meal times i shouldnt be giving her her bottle so im really confused when to give her milk.

Any tips or suggestions?

hi there, there are many people that do different thing and i dont think there is any right or wrong answer to it,i always say if your baby is happy and growing well then you are doing the right thing.
my son is 15 months and he still has 4 bottles a day as i was advised by the hv to do this as he is not the worlds best eater,
he has a 6oz bottle on waking then a 3oz bottle at about 11.30 and another 3oz bottle at about 4.30pm and a bedtime bottle between 7-7.30
when my son was younger i did give larger bottles in the day but i am gradually reducing them so the milk does not fill him to much.untill they are 1yr they need a pint of milk either to drink or in food
i would say that if your little one is happy with what you are doing and is eating well and taking milk then why change it as i am sure you would no of you little one if you were dong it wrong.

Everybody likes a drink with a meal, and babies are no different. I'd only worry iof it was distracting her from her food.

Weetabix is quite salty, and it might be making her thirsty. Hipp Organic do a good low salt version for babies ;)

Im sure they do say not to give them milk at meal times but I think, when else can you do it!! You be constantly feeding if you did it between mealtimes. I weaned my eldest and am weaning my youngest by giving them milk with their meals until they showed no interest in it any more and preferred juice. I think that if your baby is happy then you are doing it right.

my lil girl is 8 months this week! she has a bottle with every meal. i take it as a bonus personally. she use to be a nightmae she went right off her milk at one point. milk is good for babies it just means ur baby is getting her iron and other nutrients! brook has a bottle for breakfast and a full weetabix (normal weetabix)with fruit mixed. at 11 a bottle at 12 lunch (solid)at 3 a bottle. at 330 (solid) tea, at 7pm a rusk and bottle then bed! i no it seems alot but shes a hungry kiddie! my health visitor said this is fine. if she didnt want it she wouldnt eat it. and i agree. i wouldnt worry what other people say if i were you it makes you feel like ur doing everything wrong when your not. brooks my first baby and at first it upset me when people were telling me what to do and that i was doing things wrong, now i think sod em all we are doing fine!!! and im sure you are too. so unless your baby doesnt want it then csarry on as you are, HV TELL US THEY MUST DRINK MORE THEN MOAN WHEN THEY DRINK TOO MUCH! TAKE CARE AND TRUST WHAT UR BABY WANTS

My daughter is 7 months old on stage 2 food. she's been having 3/4 meals a day. She's has a 8oz bottle when she wakes up, 3oz milk in her breakfast or less, no milk then until bedtime which is an 8oz bottle. If you think your lo isn't getting enough milk try baby yoghurt that way they get the calcium and milk from that. It isn't ideal to feed milk with every meal but if you must that is totally up to you. You could always try giving your lo cooled boiled water with or without an ounce of baby juice if they are thirsty, as milk formula tends to dehydrate them anyways.

Hi my little girl is just about 8 months, at 8.00 she gets breakfast first and offered a bottle
I do give my 8 month old little girl milk after with her breakfast, always food first. But I give her a bottle of milk after her nap and juice with her lunch. I don't give her with her tea as she gets a bed time milk an hour later. Try the cow and gate breakfast for second stage as you make it up with milk, I make her bottle up and us that milk for her breakfast and she gets the rest when she is finished.

Hi, Im a first time mum and I just started weaning my baby about a few weeks and ago. I read the CowandGate Weaning booklet and the Annabel Karmel book and got some advice from a few people but to be honest everyone does it differently and all babies are different too. I think your their mum so whatever your instinct tells you to do is best and if your baby is happy and growing then you must be doing something right. I know their meant to have about 500-600ml of milk at least until their at 12 months old. I give my baby 5 bottles a day plus solids and she is naturally decreasing the amount of milk she has herself. Ideally id like her to have a full bottle first thing in the morning and last thing at night so am hoping as she eats more solids the less milk she will drink at each meal and drink more at the other feeds, Im giving her porridge or rice for breakfast, pureed veg for lunch and a rusk for tea at the minute until she gets used to the veggies then I will try her on veggies at teatime as well. Its all very confusing if you listen to too many people I found out its best to listen and then do what you think is right because it can get very confusing otherwise and it seems to be working for us! x
