Weaningcutting a bottle out?
hi ladies my son is six months on thursday and currently has 4 6oz bottles a day plus a large bowl of porridge for breakfast half to a quarter of a jar for dinner (but would eat a whole jar if it was up to him) then a whole jar for tea but recently he seems not as interested in his milk and has been throwing up every other day just bringing milk up but in large quantities so wondering would he benefit more from me cutting one bottle a day out and just give him 3 bottles a day because he would rather the food to the milk and i cant talk another day being thrown up on haha
thank you :)
hi natalie
now he is 6 months old he only needs 17-20oz of milk a day, so yes go ahead and cut down his bottles - particularly if it is making him sick now - he is getting too much and would benefit from less milk and more solid (as i said he only needs 17-20oz of milk a day now). what i would also suggest though is that you give him more than half a jar of food for his dinner though - you say he wants more, so give it to him. solid food now is a very important part of his diet. what i would suggest though is to rather than cut him down to 3 bottles, just reduce one of them down to say 3oz and give him more food.
my daughter was on 3 meals a day at 6 months old but she still had 4 bottles. it wasnt until she was 7mths old when she started take less and less from her lunch bottle (i used to give solid and milk at the same time) that i stopped bothering to give it to her and gave her a pudding instead. at 8 months old she did the same thing with her tea time bottle, so again, stopped giving it to her and gave her pudding instead.
hope that helps
hi livis mummy
thanks for that :) i have cut a bottle since i posted this he now has 3 6oz bottles a day. 1 in the morning around 8 with his porridge 1 at dinner time around 12 with a whole jar then about half 4 he now just has a whole jar and yoghurt then and 8 he has his last 6oz bottle and goes to bed the sick seems to have gone down for e.g hes gone 4 days without being sick but hes just been sick straight after his bottle before bed im so worried about him with the way hes throwing up but its not everyday day its once a day after couple to few days so dont no if this is just a normal process with him now being on more solids than milk and he'll just out grow it? what does everyone think? would love some advice as im desperate!
thanks :D
Hi fellow mums have just come on to get advice for a similar sort of thing. My sone is nearly 28 weeks and we have been weaning for nearly 10 weeks now. He is on 3 solid meals a day and loving it. Only problem/concern I have is that he has drastically cut down on his milk and although I still do 4 bottles a day most of the time he will take the most before bedtime...last night 5 oz and even if the morning can take just 3....I make up baby porridge with at least 3 oz more. He then usually takes virtually nothing at his late morning feed and a very small amount at his afternoon feed. Im thinking whether to just go and drop the late morning feed as Im giving him yoghurt as a pudding so he is getting some dairy aswell as if there is milk in anything I make his lunch with. Any comments would be gratefully received. By the way i should say hes never been a huge milk drinker at beth best of times very rarely before solids was he on 20 oz a day.
