WeaningTelling off by HV
my daughter started waking at night after 4 months of sleeping all night she also started chewing her fists and her milk didn't seem to be satisfying her so i ordered a weaning book and started giving her just pure baby rice with afternoon feed. i did this for just over a week then i started trying different flavours but then when i saw my HV she told me not to wean until six and a half months and told me to stop the food and up the milk intake but Amelia just isn't interested in her milk and i feel so bad that i have carried on with the rice but i don't know when i can move on to other foods now and i'm too worried to ask HV?
hi sweet
my baby is 14 weeks i introduced babyrice a week ago he was feeding every 2hrs and wasnt settling till 1.30am and drinking 7oz bottles he is my 4th he is now on 8oz bottles
i tried hungarier milk but he bought it back in the 3 bottles i gave him basically he was so unhappy and hungary so i started giving babyrice at 5pm wow what a diffrence he is so happy full of smiles now sleeping at 9.30pm i have to wake him for school run at 8am.
i told the hv and yes they act like your giving rat poison.
i am gonna continue doing babyrice and after explaining situation they had to agree.
you know your baby hun they arent all textbook babies, they have diffrent needs at diffrent times and you have to do whats best, i would introduce new foods from about 4 mths if you feel she is ready, at the end of the day theres only so much milk you can give and if she isnt intrested then you look at other options like you are doing.
all this 6 mths rubbish my eldest at 9 was on baby rice at 3 months.
go with your own instinct and you dont have to tell hv she's only there to advice you
half of them havent even looked after a baby. wouldnt it be good if they was all
like the ones in the textbooks!!!!!
hugs xx
Hi!

i agree as long as she is still drinking plenty of milk i dont see why not.i gave my little girl baby rice every morning at around 9 and she was happy as larry for ages where as before that i would be feeding her almost all morning and when your breast feeding there is a limit to how much you can sit in the same position before it aches.
to be honest your lucky to see your HV.mine showed up for a few weeks then i didnt see her for months then i saw her at 7/8 months and i was told a few weeks back my area doesnt have one anymore until the end of this month so good job ive not really needed her.
look after yourselves
My son is 23 weeks now and i started weaning at 20 weeks. He didn't like baby rice so I tried him on cereals and he loves them. Now I give him anything as long as its stage one and i think its good he gets used to a variety of foods. I'm feeding him 3 times a day and I try to do one cereal feed, one fruit puree feed and one veg feed, but i use different types of cereal, fruit and veg. He seems to like anything so hopefully he'll not be fussy later. My Hv said 6 months too but after talking to friends, I don't know anyone who waitied until 6 months. All babies are different so trust your instincts. You know your baby best.

I would say carry on with the rice, try not to worry about what the HV said. All babies are different. My little girl is 18 weeks and wasn't very keen when we tried her with rice, but my nephew is only 15 weeks and he's having rice evry day and loves it!
hi
sorry but you do what you think is right because my 4 was 10 weeks on cow and gate
2 taking 8oz every 3 hours my hv said it was time to feed her she is now on 8oz of same milk with 2 and half rusk every 4 hours she is alot happy now
Hi, my daughter is 22 weeks and I have been weaning her from 17.5 weeks. I started her on baby rice, then introduced fruit and veg. I think it's best to go with what you think is best for your baby, after all, you ar eht epne who is with her all the time so know her better than a hv who see's her once a week. Aimee won't drink much milk either, she likes her food way too much! x x
my 2 boys at 8 and 11 were both weaned onto baby rice at 3months an on jarred food at 6months i was horrified to see its all changed to being weaned at 6months y the change? my elest r ok for it so i cant see what the difference is
Hi my daughter is now 18 weeks old is on three meals a day having main meal and pudding at both lunch time and dinner! I started her on rice at 16 weeks, against my hv advice and within days had introduced her on to vegetables. she know eats a full range of fruit veg and espec chocolate yoghurts! she has gone back to being the happy contented baby she was previously and thank god is back to sleeping all night! i have since seen a different hv at my practice and she has told me 17 weeks is the ideal time! you know your own baby best! good luck!
hiya my mum ended up throwing our hv out, i started to wean my son who is now 8 at 3 1/2 months because he wouldnt settle at night, an the hv made me out to b a realy bad mother, anyway it didnt cause him no harm he is a healthy little boy, im expecting again due in 4 weeks i just hope i dnt get the same hv, at the end of the day mum knows best, take care x
