Weaning7 and half month old baby gagging on new foods and will only take jars
My 7 and half month old boy is gagging on my pured dinners now and Ihave been giving them to him from 4 months, have tried him with mashed food and has been sick several times, has anyone any ideas? He is very interested in what im eating as has taken some scone moistened today, Should I keep perservering with the mashed food? was going to try him with egg tomorrow and toast, but how small do I cut this up, I sound really stupid but im so afraid of not cutting it small enough and him choking.
yes keep persevering but perhaps try mashing them even smaller just to ease him back in gradually.
mash the egg with a fork until it crumbles (if you are doing hard boiled). it may be easier to start him off on scrambled egg first. wih the toast i'd just give him toast fingers - he will just gum them to pieces (if he doesnt have teeth).
Thanks for your post i will try scrambled egg tom, tried brocoli today and he had it was gagging but swallowed it, its all trial and error thanks again
I had to go back a step with my little one as I think I was trying lumpier foods a bit early so about 2 weeks ago went back to basics an pureed until food really smooth. The last few days I have tried putting a few lumpier bits in with the really pureed food and he seems to manage that better. Still some gagging but from what I have heard from other mums I know who are at the same stage thats quite normal until they get used to it. Its scary to see them gagging but I guess its just new texture for them to get used to......Im a bit scared to try toast or anything just yet....eeek !
i had this with my first and she hated stage 2 food home made or jars! only ate finger food or purree. so with my 2nd (and i have done my homework) im goin to try baby lead weaning! that way she can controll what she eats and have fun getting her hands messy too. maybe you would like to try it too.
I am having a similar problem with my little boy. I'm trying to blend or mash our food for him, but he really only likes jars - I guess because its smooth and easy to swallow. I mentioned this to someone else the other day, and they told me that he needs to get used to the feeling of lumps and gagging etc. Not nice I know, but we have to keep trying.
I have 2 children and have worked in a baby room in a nursery. Although my son would eat anything some of the babies at my nursery were the same as your little one but we found that some babies actually prefer to have finger foods and Some parents gave there babies cooked carrot stick cooked brocolli etc and they would eat that way. This also gets them used to lumps too. Good luck
