I have the icandy apple, which is the single version and it is really easy to use. would recommend the icandy over the phil and teds as you can have icandy facing forward or rearward. Also once your oldest prefers walking you could use the icandy as a single pushchair. The only downside that I can think of with the pear is that it probably takes up a more boot space than the phil and teds.
Have you looked on ebay? You can pick up apple and the pear converter kits for less than in the shops. There are always some on there, its well worth a look.

We have the same age ga with son 2 and son 3! We looked at the phil and teds as the i-candy pear hadn't been launched at the time. We thought phil and teds was ok but I was totally put off it when I heardr a little boy in the lower seat ask 'daddy, where are we going' as he couldn't really see out of it!!
So we waited and ordered the pear!!! BEST THING EVER!!!
We had it before the baby was born and used it as a single and also as a double for our other son (3at the time) So many people stop us and ask about it as it's so different from other doubles. I love the fact that you can have them facing in or away from you. And also you can have it as a 3 or 4 wheeler.
I really really recommend it. We got it from an independant baby shop who have been fantastic. When the time came to change the baby cot to the seat we found a zip was missing, not a problem the shop sorted it all out!!
YES THE i-candy pear IS FANTASTIC!!!!!
Can you tell I'm a bit passionate about it, couldn't live without it!!

i agree with everything the 1st comment says.................... the icandy pear is fantastic, what i didnt like about the phil & ted was the lower child can touch the wheels! i got mine off ebay & it was a bargain, will be using it as a double for a second time in october, love it!!!!!! x hope this helps x
