Hi
Im emma mum to Roan 19mths my mum has mentioned that it was time that i should start potty training my son but i havent the foggiest idea where to start mum says just let him run around without a nappy however im selling my house at the moment and this is just not practical anyother ideas please !
hi i am wendy mum to arran almost 19 months. i feel the same as you. i have been through it before but that was 12 years ago so have forgotten what to do! my son will tell me when he has done a poo and if i ask him whats in his nappy he will say either pee pee or poo. i have heard that their bodies arent actually ready and they have no control until around 2. i think you can do more harm by rushing them though. my sister rushed her son cos he had to be trained before he went to a playgroup and she had a terrible time with him. he was still dirtying his pants when he was about to start school. i think i will start soon and do it over a few months. i think there are some good books about it too. anyway good luck x
Im stuck on this too. My son turned 2 in October. We were advised not to start potty training him as he has walking difficulties for which he is undergoing to tests to find the cause. However, we think that now that he can walk around a bit its time to start, especially as he will start nursery in November and I dont want to leave it until the last minute and have to rush him. His main way of getting around is still to crawl and so to let him run around with no nappy doesnt work as its hard to catch him with the potty coz its difficult to see when he goes until you step in a puddle!!! We have tried showing him the potty and explaining what to do but he just seems to think its a seat and will sit on there and play! He now tells us when he has done a poo (sometimes) but to be honest he doesnt seem to care if he has got a dirty nappy and is quite happy to sit in it and wait for us to notice the smell!! So Im at a total loss as to what to do with him. At 2 years and 3 months he must be getting somewhere near ready but he just shows no interest.
Hi
I have a boy and he was 2 when i started potty training, i just left a potty around the house and he began to be curious about what it was so I sat him on it. Gradually he began to tell me when he wnated his potty, I found that if i kept asking him he wouldnt go so i left him and he did it by himself, if i went into a different room with him i told him where the potty was. It took a few months but felt leaving him to his own devices whilst encouraging and praise worked best. He is now 3 and has just started to stand up like daddy!!
Hiya
SInce me and my sister have been little, my parents actually got us off the nappies completely after 9 and 12 months, she advised both of us (we are both pregnant at the same time!) the reason why both of us were quite young when we completely went off nappies is because we had painful rashes and being sat on the potty and read to and sing songs to until you did something, and then got a reward, that is what got us off..
Nowadays, everyone says to let children use the potty and nappies in their own time without pressurising them, I agree with that but I have found a mini toilet which is a potty with a flush handle that babies/toddlers can use for their potty training. Every time they sit down on the potty and flush, reward sounds and music comes out so it may well be worth getting one. I think you can get them at Argos or Babies'r'us which is inside toys r us and it costs about _24.99. Good Luck and let us know how its going?
