Teething

My baby's teething but is she ill too?

My twelve week old daughter has been teething for a couple of weeks, but for the past couple of days she has been being sick more regularly and had bad diaorrhea. She will hardly take any of her feeds as the teat seems to hurt her gums, and she has a temperature a lot, too. She also seems to be sleeping more some days. Did anyone else's baby have these problems when teething or is something else wrong? Thanks.

I can remember when my little girl was teething, every time she had a tooth coming I knew as she would be ill, one way or another! It was horrible, the one I remember the most is that she had 3 teeth coming at once and she got croup, which was awful, we were at the emergency doctors on more than one occasion. I think it is probably normal, but I would speak to your GP or health visitor to check as you dont want her to get dehydorated. Good luck...

i would give her some calpol and that will help with teething and temperature. i would also give her andersons and parsons teething salts you can buy from llyods chemist. (they are a natural remedy) if she has bad diarrohea it may be a sign of teething or more than likely she has caught a tummy bug. either way it will soon pass. but if she isnt any better in a couple of days you could ask HV.

you also need to be getting as much fluids in as possible. either milk or water. the vomiting bit would concern me. is there anyway her milk could have contained bacteria? do you premake feeds or make them fresh each time. could you have aproblem with you water supply. obviously if you can rule this out then you could narrow it down to a teething related problem

We make fresh feeds and when we are out we use premade cartons from the shop. Asked health visitor but she's new and wasn't much help. Will see how she goes and see doctor. Think she might have had a bug as me and my partner were bad through the night too. Thanks for your answers. Does anyone know what you can give a baby for a bug?

hi there, when my son was cutting his first teeth he was ill to it was coming out of both ends so we went to the doctor and were told to give calpol when needed and offer water little and often, this lasted just under a week until the tooth was through and my son was back to normal so i think its a case of riding it out and just offer plenty of water and maybe plain foods as there is nothing you can give a baby for a bug it just has to work out of the system but if she is no better in a few days then i would go back to the doctoras my hv is usless to,good luck and i hope she gets better soon

Thanks. Had her at docs today she thinks its a bug. Managed to get much more milk down her today thankfully but still not as much as we would like. We noticed that she will drink her pre made cartons but not when we make her milk using cooled boiled water, so we have someone coming to check our water, too.
