Hi both my children were born with lactose intolerance my youngest is 6 months and have just started to wean him. alot of the breakfast cereals contain milk so you have to be really careful and read labels on everything!! the only cow and gate one i've found to be dairy free this time around is the strawberry and banana one.avoid anything that says "creamy" in the description as usually contains milk. look carefully as so much stuff even stuff you wouldnt expect has milk in it.(some washing up liquids certain crisps- for when shes older) with my 1st child i made everything from scratch this time there seems to be a bit more in the shops. the ella's kitchen stuff is good for when you are out and about. once she has got used to foods you can try the alpro soya range they do lots of stuff including yoghurts and puddings.you can also buy dairy free margerine from supermarkets.and use whatever special formula shes on when cooking
good luck it is a bit of a mine field but you quickly get used to what contains milk feel free to message me if you need any further help

Hey lucyangel, my daughter is also lactose intolerant (cows milk protein too). Try oats so simple porridge with golden syrup (already added). Brianna also loves it mixed with mashed up bananas. I think most of the boxed cereals contain milk. (also look out for whey protien and casien in products). I make all her food from scratch. Is your girl on the Cow n gate infasoy then?
Add fruit to the ready brek, not acidic ones though lol. To be fair bananas the best way to go.
Brianna is 2 now and it gets some getting used to with looking at all the ingredients of everything you pick up at the shops..but it just come second nature soon. The apple and pear pudding goes down a treat (cow n gate) a well as the strawberry and banana one, Ann- Marie spoke about. I havent actually found mant moms that have been through this, kinda glad I have now.
I used to mix ready brek and weetabix with these desserts (as well as her milk too lol) :)
I have just seen on this website that the 'pure baby rice' breakfast cereal has no added milk ingredients and also my daughter fave..fruiti muesli in the jar. Give them a mix as the pure baby rice is soooooooo bland from what I remember. take a look here on this site, you can narrow your search...Go to 'our products' tab on left hand side, then select baby food on right, then breakfasts..then you can narrow search and tick no added milk and it gives you a list.
YOu will be a dab hand at this soon, and when she reaches 6 months you can try her on the alpro soya yogurts and desserts. x

Hi,
My 5 year old daughter and 3 month old son have both been lactose intolerant since birth and it certainly makes life interesting. I tend to cook a lot of things from scratch, though after 5 years of practice, I'm an expert at checking labels! The last few days I've been looking at what options I've got for "convenience" foods for my son when I start weaning him and have managed to find quite a few jars and packets of baby food that are lactose free. I agree that the only C&G cereals that are ok are the pure baby rice and the Banana and Strawberry cereal. For help with label checking, since a lot of the time the lactose is hidden under other names, try the Sainsbury's website as they have a great section on food allergies which includes a list of things to watch out for on labels. They also have a complete list of their own brand products which are lactose free. The Boots website is also good as they tell you the ingredients of the baby foods they sell, or the allergens they contain, including the branded foods. I'm going to sit down and go through all the baby foods they sell and make myself a list of ones which are ok so that I know what to look for on the shelves when I go shopping. If your baby is just lactose intolerant and doesn't have an issue with cows' milk proteins, then there's a good range out called Lactofree which does cheese, yoghurts and milk which are cows' milk, just with the lactose taken out. I make a lot of things for my daughter with the cheese and find the milk better for cooking than soya milk.
Good luck! xx

My daughter has a milk protein allergy and i started weaning her at 4 months (under medical advice) and have found that Hipp do a dried cereal from 4 months (can't remember the flavour) and a dried banana porridge which is from 6 months. Hipp also do some ready made pots in two flavours (strawberry and banana??? and banana and peach) and they have cereal mixed with them and both are milk and lactose free.

If you go on the Hipp website there is a feature on the website that allows you to search the entire range for products which are milk and lactose free and this will give you every food item they make which match your criteria.

also when it comes to food Ella's Kitchen are very good and the majority of thier food products are lactose free teh only ones that aren't are the breakfasts they do.

Sorry if this doesn't make any sense but hope it helps x

hi, just been reading your comments as my youngest daughter has just been put on the cow & gate comfort milk, mainly for colic. My eldest daughter, who is almost 12 had a milk protein allergy and lactose intolerance and I totally sympathise. She still suffers now but can tolerate some milk. She knows her limits.
Alprosoy do 'desserts' in various different flavours. My daughter absolutely loves the chocolate and vanilla ones (the vanilla is like custard!) and has had these since being small. as they are smooth they are ideal for little ones, plus they have added calcium.
I could never get her to drink the soya milks once she got to toddler age but we then discovered the so good flavoured milks. They work a treat and she still drinks them now.
As for breakfast cereal, she uses banana mashed instead of milk!! We just mix it in with her cereal.
You can buy all of these things in the supermarkets and also Pure dairy free margarine. that was a life saver as you can use it to bake as well and make your own little biscuits and treats for your little one.
Hope some of this is of some help. Feel free to message me if I can be of any more help and i will try my best. x
