Special baby dietsVegatarian diet for 16 month old!!
my daughter is 16 months old and has turned her self veggie!! she wont eat meat and i am stuck on what sort of things to give her!! i used to vegatarian but that was many years ago and there is much more variety out there now!! does anyone know any good easy recipes that i can cook and freeze?
would appreciate any help!! thanks
you can make the same things as you would do for meat eaters, but just use quorn instead - ie cottage pie, lasagne etc. quorn comes in chunks so a bit like diced chicken so you can make casseroles. you can also get it in mince form. you can also buy "ham" and "chicken" made out of quorn as sandwich fillings so she will still be getting the protein that she would normally get from meat. make sure she has beans and lentils too. eggs are also great for protein that she will miss not having meat. (i used to be veggie - was for 15 years - but a week after i gave birth, i had a massive hankering for a turkey baguette and i have been on meat since - that was 2 years ago now!)
I would try and get her to eat some meat she is a bit young to decide to go veggie. It is probably just a phase, my LO went off chicken for a month or so but is back eating it again. I kept offering meat at her evening meal and some times she would spit it out, other times she ate it. If the family is not veggie it would be easier for her to eat the same as everyone else.
i offer her meat at least once a day just finding it so hard as i me and my partener eat meat and cooking 2 dinners is a bit annoying!! she has been off meat for 2 months now!! hopefully she will go back on it!! thanks for your help!
Hi
can i ask how you are preparing the meat you are offering your lo?my little girl is 3 and a half and she struggled with meat and i'd say until about a year ago i would only give her meat that was minced as she had difficulty chewing it so beef lamb turkey. she loves her roast dinners and will eat most meats now i still have to cut it up very small for her otherwise she can find it difficult to chew
i would definatelely persist with her as aswell as being a source of protein she needs it for the iron. my lo saw his dietician the other day and she told me off as i hadn't tried him with meat yet(he is 9 months but he couldnt even tolerate baby rice or fruit puree until he was around 28 weeks so is quite behind in weaning process but we're getting there he's now eating fish and meat is my next challenge!!)
good luck x x
my LO is now 16 months and has started eating minced beef. I used to give her bolgnese and she would suck all the sauce off and spit out the wee mince worms. I gave it a quick blast in blender and she had no problems. Next time I gave a shorter blast and now I dont blast it at all. maybe try that
i cut all her meat up into tiny little peices so amll sometimes u cant even see it but she manages to find it and suck off the sauces and spit it out!! i never had trouble with her weaning she ate everything she was weaned at 12 weeks and by 7 months eatting all sorts of finger foods she even loved every type of meat!! i hope its just a phase she is going through luckily she loves fish so she getting some protein just worried about her iron!
