Milk Protein Intolerence

I have recently found out my son who is 6 months old now has a milk protein intolerence, its hard work because i have to find foods that are milk and lactose free, and it is proving to be difficult there is a few ive found IE hipp, some cown and gate, and also boots own brands but it is difficult to give him finger foods for things his age should be enjoying, the milk am using now is a priscription milk called nutramigen which to buy is _15 for a 400g tin please does anyone know if theres anywhere i can get him some nice fingery foods as he isnt to have ANY dairy until hes 2 and half, and also no soya until hes a yr old.... ps he also has reflux how hard work haha

Hi. Have two Dairy Intolerant children. It gets easier when they turn one. In the mean time try Farleys rusks (original) dont contain dairy but are made in bakery that uses dairy so not allowed to say dairy free but if just intolerant not allergic may be alright. Cow and Gate do berry bear biscuits from 7mths, but have got soya flour in so depends on reaction. Soft fruits such as banana are good when they start eating more solid food. As he gets more confident with solids try making cakes and biscuits yourself using Pure with sunflower instead of usual margarine. Available in most large supermarkets or healthfood shops. As for reflux most dairy intolerant children have another intolerance which is probably the cause. Ask to see a dietician to help in discovering the cause. Most common is egg intolerance. But mine cant cope with citric fruits or garlic. Hope this helps sorry i couldnt suggest more. just remember your not alone and most children grow out of dairy intolerance by the time their five.

Sorry for my late replying.... thanks for your reply... since this message started i have had my wee one in hospital again they have uped his dosage of medicine for the reflux side cos everything going in was coming out... and my daughter god love her accidently gave my son whos now 7 months old a farleys rusk needless to say it hit alittle bad, ive found asda have some dairy free bread and things so picked some up yesterday and holand and barratt have dairy free chocolate i picked up for his christmas stocking... he doesnt like banana's weve tried that one haha and egg does make him bad... were waiting for a dietian to give us a call or letter to make an appointment as he is still only 15lb 8oz theres an issue which we are worried about.... its frustrating as none of my other 2 children were like this and its hard explaining to my 4 yr old that his brother cant have chocolate buttons that he takes for granted... oh the joys lol xxx

HI, my 14 month old has just been diagnosed with sever milk protein intolerence, and i have spent hours shopping!!!! we have found dairy free chocolate buttons and spreads in sainsburys... and i discovered that organix carrots sticks and puffs are ok - a bit like wotsits but no cheese!
our major problem at the mo is that he has been put on soy formula and he hates it - he has had 3 oz in 3 days.... as he has failure to thrive - he hasn't put on weight or grown since he was 9 months old----- he needs the fat etc that a formula would give him. does anybody have any ideas for making it taste better or another formula to try? i would love to hear from anybody in the same situation!! thanks.

Hi, my son has severe milk protein and dairy allergies. He has been on lactose free milk, nutramigen and is now on cow&gate pepti-junior (which is the only one that is palateable!!!! Believe me....we have has so many problems and in and out of hospital fr months. He has been tube fed for 3 weeks, endoscopy and is still on alot of medications. He also has a medical condition oesophagitis. He is now 16 months. I would ask your gp if they will let you try cow&gate pepti or pepti-junior, it can only be given on prescription.

Good luck. Hope you get somewhere.
