Special baby diets

3 & a half yr old - just found out she is probably anaemic -

Hi,
I've just been to the docs with my daughter and after listening to her symtoms he thinks she's anaemic but that'l be confirmed next week at the hospital with a blood test but he's told me she should be eating more meat.....

Now, my daughter will eat veg and fruit till it comes out of her mouth but she won't eat any type of meat, can anyone help me please as to how to get her to eat meat.

Thanks,
Tracey

my daughter isnt a fan of meat either. she'll eat a small amount of chicken but she certainly isnt fond of anything more than that. i can just about get her to eat lasagne or bolognese if i make sure there are plenty of vegetables mixed in with the mince. perhaps if she doesnt like meat/you cant get her to eat it, then you need to look at other ways of her getting iron just like a vegetarian would (ie leafy green veg etc, try to get her to drink orange juice with any high iron foods you give her). (i used to be veggie until a week after my daughter was born and i suddenly had a massive hankering for turkey which i gave in to after 15 years of vegetarianism!.)

you could try her with things that you can include small peices of meat hidden among the veg like stir fry type things with beef or pasta bakes with chicken. or maybe try her with tortilla wraps and try to sneak in some meat with the veg. will she eat seafood? tuna is quite good and so is some shellfish.
if she wont eat meat though like livis mummy says try other high iron foods. iron dosnt absorb as well from veg as it does from meat so serve along side something high in vit C like orange juice, tomatoe juice, or fruit for desert as this will increase the iron intake. other good iron foods are iron enriched breakfast cereals, boiled eggs, and baked beans.

the best possible thing would be liver. as its so iron rich you would only need to sneak in very small portions. no idea how you would get her to eat it though. Im not a great fan of meat myself and cant stand liver but it might be worth a go x

Hiya! I know the best solution woud be for her to start eating meat, but in the meantime, will she take a multi vitamin with Iron in?? My daughter has a Bassets soft and Chewy every morning she loves it its just like a sweetie! xx
