hiya, i presume you are putting him down awake then? in the day you could try layin a sheet or blanket on his changing mat and putting an activity gym over him to see if he will be entertained and fall asleep by himself where he is,when he has had a kick about. you could also calm him down or sing to him while he is laying down so he knows your still there, we also found the hoover a great way to get brook asleep if she cried when we put her down we usually used to put the hoover on as the white noise from the hoover settled her off, or some loud music usually did the trick. (not too loud though) we found that justin timberlake made her cry though ha ha, if he crys in the night then u could resettle him and then lay him down while he is half asleep half awake, i see no halm in comforting your baby when he is in distress when being put down, but i personally would not pick him up everytime, maybe let him know you are there by stroking his cheek or head or pop one of your items of clothing in his bed with him what you have been wearing, hope this helps

Hi i have a 7 week old baby girl, we had exactly the same with our little girl she would be fast asleep in our arms but then as soon as we put her in her cot she would be wide awake and screeming and wouldnt settle, its not everyones cup of tea but we decided to give her a dummy as some babies need a bit of help getting off to sleep, we decided we would rather her have a dummy than be reliant on us all the time to get to sleep, we now put her down in her cot with the dummy and stay with her with our hand on her chest so she knows we are still there, this is now working really well for us, yes you may have to put the dummy in a couple of times till they settle but once our baby is asleep she spits ot out herself and then doesnt need it while sleeping, and then gradually we will withdraw us from the equation and then the dummy also, i personally wouldnt use the activity gym because its thebn re stimulating them when you should be settleing them down quetly to sleep with no stimulation so they can switch off and drop off, hope this helps, x

Hi,
This was the same situation for us. We made the decision to leave Archie to cry, first night was nearly 30 mins, second night 15 mins, and so on within a week all we heard was a few murmers. Now he is 6 months and always goes down awake but has a dummy and a comforter and a mobile, he has the same routine every night, bath, bottle and teddy light show (well worth it) and bed with mobile, works a treat!!

i'd say put him down awake, maybe with something thats got your "scent" if you nurse him to sleep all the time your making things hard for yourself,_maybe put a lulaby thingy next to his cot/moses basket ._

Our little girl used to go to sleep in her car seat. We then tried putting rolled up blankets in her moses basket so that she didn't have loads of space and that seemed to help too.
