Premature babiesweaning my premature baby, please help!?!?!?
hey all. i had my girl 14 weeks early on 10thy sept 2010 weighing 1lb 40z. this means shes 24 weeks old now, 10 weeks corrected, the thing is she is showing signs that shes ready to be weaned so does any1 no if it is safe to so yet or got any advice?thanks x
my sister weaned her baby by her actual age rather than the corrected age and all was well but her baby wasnt as premature as yours. the sign my sister had for her baby was that she was taking a full bottle of milk and still not being entirely satisfied and the gaps between her feeds were getting closer together. you could perhaps ask your HV for advice though before you wean given your baby was prem but do what you feel is best as you are her mum and you'll know best of all if milk isnt enough for her now. x
my lo wasn't as early as yours, he was four weeks early. They told me to wait till 7 months to wean instead of 6 but like livis mummys sisters lo he was not satisfied after feeds. He went on hunghry baby milk fairly soon too but that was not satisfying him, he would drink a full bottle but you could tell it was not filling him but he couldn't fit any more in. He was also showing an interest in our food which is also a sign apparantly. I started him off with a little baby rice for brekkie for a couple of weeks and then moved to a tiny amount of puree's. I discussed it with the hv and she was not too keen but just took it really slowly and did not give him too much. I would discuss it with your hv too but like your above post as her mum you know best
Hi my daughter was born at 29 wks I started to give her baby porridge when she was 15 wks old corrective age 11 wks and she was fine and slept better at night. If your abit worried bout the porridge rusks with her milk is thinner. But I had not probs wat so ever. Let us know how u get on x
ooooo thanks for advice i think il try her on a lil bit of baby rice this week just scared of her choking :-/ such a worry xx
when you first wean the baby rice needs to have the consistency of milk anyway, so she should be fine with it. good luck! x
Hi I had my son at 26 weeks and was advised by my consultant to start weaning him at 4 months actual age not corrected age - just started off with porridge and baby rice and gradually progressed from there he is now just under 10 months and fully weaned good luck! x
