Premature babiesprem babys slow development
hi there my little girl was born at almost 34weeks and had some difficultys with breathing and then had several hospital addmissions after being released from hospital shes is now 8months old feeding well and has been generally healthy and has not been in hospital since feb. shes a very smiley happy baby but is still very floppy doesnt sit up or have much head controll she smiles lots but that about it! i was just wondering if this is normal as i have 3 other children and at this age were into everything!!! any other experiences or advice please thanku x
premature baby's of course will take a bit longer, you would expect her to be at a developmental stage about 6 weeks behind her age, (although they say by 1yr they have pretty much caught up, my niece was born at 36 weeks), but you also need to remember that they develop in their own time. perhaps mention it to your HV the next time you see her to be sure all is well though.
Hi gateways, my son was only 2 weeks early so still classed as full term but didn't sit properly and unaided until he was 10 months! But then within 2 weeks he was doing loads of other things and crawling, pulling up etc so it all came at once. At 8 months I wouldn't worry too much but like livi's mummy said have a word with your hv about the head control just to have your mind put at rest :-)))xx
hi ya my little boy was born at 31wks,weighed 3lb 12oz,his head control was when he was 10months,then at 11 months he started sitting up,he didnt start walking till 2months ago hes now nearly 19months,everything comes with time,am still blending his food down any lumps he just throws it back up,hv sa
sorry about that my son pressed something, anyway hv said not to worry just give him time, sorry again but dont worry about it they get there in the end bless them.xxxxxx
Hi my son was born at 29 weeks, he is doing well. He is 6 months but doing things that of a 3 month old. The doctor's tell me he will catch up by the time he is 2 years old. It is really hard as other babies his age are doing things which he cant do yet. But he is happy which is all that matters.
