Premature babies

lyla born at 35 weeks

my baby girl lyla was born on 7th aug, by emergency c section. she was transverse and as my waters had gone, this meant she was stuck. i was told at 7.30am that i was having a c section and she was out by 8.15am. weighing 5lb 5oz. she is now a healthy 7lb 1oz. i want to know if prem babies develop at the same rate as on time babies or will she be 5 weeks behind? i am also desperate for sleep as my 22 month old daughter bayleigh still wakes at least 3 times a night.... any tips, my partner works nights so cant help.

Hi, my daughter was born at 36 weeks and has done everything at the same time if not faster than the other babies her age. She is 3 now and has no problems at all wiith anything. She is a bright little button so i wouldn't worry. I'm sure your little girl will suprise you too. Some people say that prem babies 'play catch up' and do things faster and put weight on faster to catch up. I certainley think that was true in my daughter as she is now the tallest in her playschool. lol! Good luck with everything

My twins were born7 weeks early, and were in hosp for almost 4 weeks. But now at 9 months old, you'd never know they were early as they're at the same stage, or even ahead of, other babies of the same age. In fact, my friends baby, who was born the day before my girls a week after her due date isn't crawling yet, and my two are! Best wishes to you and you little bundle of joy : )

Thanks to everyone who left me advice about my prem baby. It was all very reassuring. Lyla has put on nweight really fast , not suprising as she is stil feeding every two hours! She was 5 wks on the 11th.
Great to know i'm not alone and there are other mum's experiencing the same things.

My son was born at 34 weeks weighing 5ilb 4oz and put on weight so fast that no one could keep up...he's now 7 months and 19lb 4oz!! the size of a normal term baby. Premmies catch up eventually and often exceed everyones expectations...my first son was born at 38 weeks, weighing 7lb 12oz and didn't roll over until he was 8 months, my little premmie rolled at 15 weeks and is into everything, you never can tell with any baby as they are all different.
