Postnatal depression & baby bluesCitalopram weaning
Anyone experienced horrid side effects coming off citalopram...I feel dizzy, irritable, can't sleep, horrid dreams when I do manage and generally hate myself and the world. K see nk end t it,have been cutting down since six weeks ago x
Can't see an end to it is what that should say..bloody I pad lol x
hi i was on citalopram 20mg for a year after losing a baby i came off them in the summer just past i felt dizzy was constantly edgy and had horrible nausea and mood swings its taken me alot of perseverance just to get through but its the best thing ive done yet i feel great now the best advice i can give is to continue with weaning yourself off it and youl feel better in no time the withdrawal isnt pleasant but when you get past it youl be fine just try to focus on the reason you are doing it!! if you feel the side affects are too much speak to your gp again xxxx
Hi, I have experienced exactly the same as you. I was on citalopram 10mg for 7 months with pnd, went down to 5 mg to start and then took it every other day. I have felt lousy. I have now been off it totally for around a month, the dizzyness has stopped but still have trouble sleeping, feel really up one minute and come crashing down the next. Very teary and irritable with my toddler. I feel like such a bad mother to my baby and toddler and sometimes think they would be better off without me. Wish I had never gone on them in the first place. Hoping it will get better with time as really don't want to start taking them again
Hi, I have had all those side affects whilst being on Citalopram, I now have to come off them as am 25wks pregnant, starting to feel good about myself but have only been off them 4 days. I'm having the sleepless nights but thats due to having a poorly 3yr old, a 36 wk old, and being 26 wks.
I'm not a doctor but I wouldn't recommend coming off them 'cold turkey'.
I was on 40mg when I found out I was pregnant (I am now 19 + 3). I have cut down to 10mg a day and am now going to try 5mg, then alternate every other day (exactly as ELSIE11 said).
You need to way up the pros and cons of how it makes you feel and how it impacts on baby.
Good luck, they side effects are not pleasant x x x
They're horrific!
I gradually weaned over last few weeks and ten days ago stopped altogether...yay!
Dizziness is a major prob and feel spaced out and drunk most of the time...I also have a very short fuse and am aright pain to live with, m now taking travel sickness pills and metclopramide to combat some of the effects. Had I known more bout this drug I wouldn't have gone on it in the firs place altho I do believe it's helped to some degree. I am no longer wishing my life to end every day...only once in a while and only fleeting thoughts of self harm....I have evrrything t live for....am getting married in June in Vegas! And my lo is almost 2 and is an absolute treasure so I have t be thankful for that.
Still have trouble sleeping and horrid dreams out of my control when I do manage to, but hey the road to recovery is long but am sure well all get there!
Good luck everyone and congrats lmb3 on your pregnancy xx
