Immunisationmmr at 13 months
hi everyone my 13 month old little girl had her 1st mmr 2 days ago and she has been a bit unwell crying alot not sleeping properly and banging her head alot (not sure why she is banging her head) so i looked to the internet for advice and wish i hadnt i have read things about mmr and autism brain damage all sorts of things i would have never thought of ! now im just thinking the worst what if i mis-judge her normal crying for something more serious ? i feel so sorry her because she is not her self apart from calpol and cuddles i dont no what else to do any advice from mums having been though this would be much appreciated x
each child is different but it can upset them and give them a slight temperature for a few days and make them generally grizzly, calpol and cuddles is great, if you are still concerned give your surgery a call, with it being a little one they normally manage to fit you in.
xxx i hope its nothing more than grizzles xxxx
Hi lorraine, my son had all 3 jabs at 12 months and he was unwell following but usually runs temps with all his jabs so I wasn't too concerned. Just use calpol or nurofen for fever like Claire said and she should be fine. As far as I know they ruled out any link with mmr and autism - all the children in the original test were already showing signs of having autistic traits before they had the jabs - and its now been discredited so I wouldn't worry about that.
You may also find that she gets a rash 7-10 days after the jab, my son did but he's absolutely fine and I'm sure that your daughter will be too, we just tend to overworry don't we :-))xx
Just to add like claire said if you have any concerns always get medical advice, you can ring nhs direct as well if you can't get in at gps. If you think she is unwell then definitely get her checked out again but I doubt that it will be anything linked to autism xx
hi again thanks 4 comments i do worry about every little thing that happens to her and my son but im only 2 min drive from a walk in hospital as for the rash my daughter doesnt have any rash yet but if she does , does it just fade after a few days ? x
Yes its just like a viral rash it comes up and last a few days then gradually goes, but they don't all get it - some don't get any symptoms at all following jabs but my son seems to suffer every time! He had a bit of a cold the day before the jabs so we took him to docs who said he had virus but as his temp was ok to go ahead, on the day the nurse checked his temp and again no fever so did the jabs, so when his rash came up we didn't know if it was from mmr or from the original virus. Started on his face and spread down and he was a little unwell again, doc said some babies get symptoms 4 weeks and 6 weeks after their mmr too which is normal apparently.
Might be worth ringing nhs direct or speaking to drop in clinic and just asking about the head banging though if she didn't do it before - but could be from something else maybe ear infection? I'd get it checked anyway.
Hope she is feeling better soon! xx
i wanted just to echo that no link between MMR and autism has ever been found so try not to worry. the injections affect them all differently and some injections my daughter was fine with but the MMR did make her a touch poorly (apparently out of all the injection if they are going to get a temperature etc with one it will be the MMR) but after a few days they are normally back to themselves. like the others have said, calpol and love! x
hi yes i agree there is no link between MMR and autism don't know how babies are affected after it as my son hasn't had his yet, but my nan used to look after disabled kids and there was a big dispute about it, and eventually they found out that it was not the cause, yes are are risks with any jab but it all depends on how the baby reacts to what is put inside them, it is very rare of anything to happen, MMR is an important injection and im sure they wouldn't inject babies if there was a big chance of bad side affects, so don't worry im sure all is fine, just abit of calpol and tlc and she will back to normal in no time xx
