MMR

Hi guys

I know the subject has been debated a lot but I just wanted your input. My 13 month old is having her MMR on Monday and I am interested in whether you gave your little ones the triple jab? I have read a lot about MMR but don't really know if I am doing the right thing or not. Getting them done in single doses does not seem straight forward either for various reasons. Would appreciate your comments.

Hi, my son had them done two weeks ago and had all three injections at the same time. He was also off colour the day before and had slight rash on his face so we took him to gp to ask if he was still ok to have the jabs and she said it was viral and as long as he wasn't running a fever he could still have jabs the next day, which he did.
He always runs a temp after jabs anyway was the same with all the baby ones and this time too, the following morning in the early hours he developed a fever and it lasted a couple of days. About a week after the jabs he got another temp and rash started spreading over his body, this was the mmr bit coming out, we took him back to docs to make sure thats what it was. She confirmed it was probably him fighting off the original virus plus side effects of mmr. She also said that they can get other side effects 4 weeks and also 6 weeks after mmr and that is completely normal.
Personally I was glad that he got them all over and done with together, he is fine at the moment but we will be watching out for more possible side effects in a couple of weeks!
Its not nice for them having the jabs but far far better than the risk of catching measles, I didn't know until recently that approx 2 in every 1000 die from it due to swelling of the brain or other complications. Very scary stuff!

the risks of the diseases the injection is protecting against are much more serious than any risks of the injection (of which no link has been proven). i personally would not, and did not, hesitate in giving my daughter the MMR (triple jab), or any injection. she is now 3 1/2 yrs old and has had both her doses. she was absolutely fine after both of them (the one at 13 months and the one she has just had at 3 1/2 yrs) - no temperature, nothing! you may have read in the news recently that there have been measles outbreaks which, for me, is much more scary and certainly not worth taking the risk when there is a prevention for it.

Oh sorry were you just asking about the mmr bit, my son had Hib/Men C, PCV and MMR all at the same time, where I live they have combined the 12 and 13 month injections. Anyway he is fine and I'm glad he's got them all over with! :-))

buffy - they do the tetanus, Hib/Men C, PCV etc at the same time as the MMR (just the other arm!) for every child at about 12 or 13 months and a booster of all of them again at about 3 1/2 yrs old in my area too.

Hi Shelly, my son had tetanus at 2, 3 and 4 months but they don't do it at 12/13 months just a booster before school at approx 3yrs 4 months with the next mmr and dtap/ipv, so he just had the 3 jabs at 12 months (mmr, hib/men c and pcv), 2 in one leg and one in the other you should have seen the look he gave the nurse though lol not looking forward to the 3yr ones when he'll know whats gonna happen! :-))
