Feeding problems and questionsProblems with feeding
Hi, i have 10 month old, who over the past few days has been a nightmare to feed. When i first weaned she was great, ate almost anything and up until a few days ago, ate 3 solid meals a day with no fuss. We tried to introduce the jars with lumps in and she just kept spitting the bits out - now everytime we try and feed her she pulls away and throws herself around - if we do manage to ge some food into her mouth she spits it out. We have given her finger food, such as toast and wotsits, which she does eat OK. Any suggestions on what food i can try her with?
hi sarah,
i was having exactly the same problem, my son is 10 months old and he too was eating 3 meals a day, but last week refused to take anything of a spoon at all,he even kicked the bowl, so i know exactly how u feel. But i have to say that this week has been completely different and he will be spoon fed again, i think maybe he was feeling a bit off colour last week but who knows!!!! i just persevered with every meal and gave him a lot of praise when he did eat. i also give him a spoon to hold so that he feels involved and this seems to help. Daniel will happily eat toast crusts and strips of cheese, rice cakes etc, which i give him after he has finished his meal. hope some of this helps, i think babys go through phases and can be different from one week to the next so hopefully things will improve for u soon and mealtimes will be fun again.Good luck.

Hi, my daughter is now 13months and like your lo she ate brilliantly when we weaned her etc. However, when we introduced lumps & finger food her tastes & preferences did/have become more particular - which for us has taken some getting used to. Best advice is to stick to a brand/type of food that you know he/she likes & will eat & try it with a few lumps in it but not one that will be too lumpy or take a lot of chewing - our daughter used to eat any brand of food & any home cooked meals but now will only eat cow & gate baby balance jars or certain homemade meals! You could also try making some homemade food & control the amount of lumps that are in it that way. Either way just keep introducing lumps slowly but don't worry as it could a while. Also, try not to make a big deal out of it when your lo won't eat the lumpier food & definitely try not to 'force/press' the food onto her/him as that will make it worse & they'll pick up on your stress/worry. If however, it has already come to the stage where mealtimes with or without lumps are a nightmare then go back to basics. Sit your lo on your knee to eat, give them a spoon to play/help with & give your lo a non lumpy food you know they absolutely love, then day by day (or meal by meal depending how quickly your lo settles back into mealtimes) sit your lo back in their highchair & then gradually start to re-introduce lumps. It will come out fine in the end though - after all how many adults do you know who will still only eat mushed up food! Good luck xx
