Feeding problems and questionsgoing to sleep with bottle
i have a one year old, he sleeps 3 times a day 9am 2pm then night time 8pm but he will not go to sleep without his bottle, do you think this is ok and till when or does anyone know how to get him off his bottle he eats all day long, and will only have follow on milk i have tryed with everything from water to juice and everything i can think of he just wants his milk! What should i do ?
i let my eldest have her bottle at bedtime until she was 2yrs old - to be honest though she didnt want milk at any other time of day so a bottle before bed was a good way of getting milk in to her. guidelines say to get them off by 1yr old but really dont stress yourself about it. having a bottle of milk before bed is a nice routine and a bit of comfort. afterall to me a 1yr old is still a baby!
however, him only wanting to go to sleep during the day with his bottle (if that is what you mean), then that would bother me. letting them drink on bottles a lot is not good for them and they should not be given bottles of anything other than milk - ie putting juice in a bottle is bad for their teeth as it prolongs drinking time. i would probably go cold turkey to be honest, give him milk in a cup and if he doesnt take it, then that is up to him.
have you tried him with cows milk now he is 1yr old? what is his solid food diet like?
i havent tryed him on cows milk yer i wasnt sure when he could have cows milk,
he will fal asleep with his bottle day aswell other wise he will not sleep and gets in really bad mood, i give him his juice in a cup but its him falling asleep during the day with a bottle he doesnt yet know how to go to sleep on his own !
they can have full fat cows milk from 1yr old. he should only have 1 pint of milk a day from 1yr old and that includes any yogurts and cheese in his diet. if you do switch him over to cows milk, then make sure you dont give him too much more than the 1 pint recommendation as having in excess of the recommnended amount of milk over a sustained period can lead to anaemia.
regarding falling asleep on the bottle, in that case you may have a bit of a battle on your hands as it is clearly now habit and teaching him to fall asleep on his own at his age may be hard given he has only ever done it on the bottle. if you are determined to teach him to fall asleep on his own then i think you are giong to have to be very consistent in not giving in to him when he wants a bottle. i think the problem you may face though is that he wont be old enough to understand what you are trying to do. hopefully somebody else will have been through teaching them to sleep on their own at that age and will have some ideas as i'm afraid i dont have experience of that, both of mine have learnt to fall asleep on their own at very young ages (approx 6 weeks old).
thank you i need to get him off falling asleep with his bottle he will not have anything like a dummy or a toy to take to bed ?
with him falling asleep within mins of him having his bottle i cant kepp him awake to finish it and put him to bed sleepy ?
