Feeding problems and questionsdinner wars!
help! My son is 19months old, he used to love he's food and was happy to try new things untill about 4weeks ago and it's just gone to pot! he eats he's breakfast fine, but thats it. he loves he's fruit and yoghurts, which is good, but he has stopped eating bread, meat, pasta all veg and anything that isnt sweet. the hv says he'll eat when he's hungry, but i feel 4 weeks is a joke. he is taller then average for he's age and has always been slightly underweight, but he is now loosing weight, a couple of ounces in the month and i can see he's ribs! i'm startin to worry, every meal is a fight, with him screamin for yoghurts for upto an hour and half whilst dinner infront of him. the last couple of weeks i've stopped giving him the yoghurts unless he has eaten at least half of he's meal, but this has had no effect either, just means he's eating even less! i dont know what else i can do, he can't live off ready brek for a whole day every day!!!

Hi i know its hard i had this with my 9 yr old he still fussy now, your hv is right though he will eat once he realises he cant get his own way, even at this young age they certainley know how to play us mums!! have you tried changing his breakfast to maybe wheatabix or toast with a bit of jam? you can put bananas etc on wheatabix. as for the bread try crumpets with dairylea, if all else fails try ignoring him when he doesnt eat as he prob knows the lomger he screams the more likely you are to give in and give him a yoghurt, ive been there and paying the price still he wont eat hardly any veg or meat or fish and still expects pudding, he still stamps up the stairs and slams doors when he dont get his own way!! hope this helps
im having exactly the same problem with my 18 month old son. he used to love his food but now he will only eat bananas, chocolate and biscuits. im really worried which is why i was scanning the forum to see if i could get any advice. my son, like yours cant afford to lose any weight so do i let him have his chocolate and biscuits? im not really helping you am i? i think most kids go through something like this sometime so im sure theres nothing to worry about, well thats what my friends tell me anyway. but as a mum you cant help but worry
Hi,
I'm glad its not only me!!! I'm worried also about my 14 month old. Every meal tneds to be a mightmare and some days he bearly eats anything!! He likes finger foods and like you say crisps and biscuites etc whilch again like you say I tend to give him sometimes cos I feel he needs to get something inside him. As for proper meals he might have a couple of spoonfuls then in go his hands, he spits it out, he throws it, he gives it to the dog!! I have tried all sorts, giving him his own spoon and trying to get a spoonful in from me but like I say he just spits it out! My health visitor has said the same thing he will eat when hes hungry but that doesnt help when it starts to affect their sleeping as well does it!! I want my son to be a good healthy eater not for every meal to be a war. I hope we can all find a solution very soon!!
