Hi, my son is 3months old now and I am having real problems feeding him. He has been bottle fed from birth and have had him on SMA gold since birth he was being very sick around a month ago so i changed him to aptamil easy digest which he absolutely hated and then had constipation so went back to SMA. He is not eating very much approx 18-26ozs a day over 8 or 9 feeds and I cannot seem to get him to eat anymore. I give him infacol before each feed which helps with the winding but just lately he is starting to cry during a feed. He feeds quite quickly but if i take the bottle out he wont have it back so can't give him a little then wind him and he is being sick nearly all the time when he cries he seems as if he is pain so am very worried now, How much should a baby of that age weighing 12lbs on average eat in a day? Also I introduced him to a dummy and now he even wants this dummy during a feed sometimes. Please help I am very worried about him, Thanks
hi i am no expert but this sounds like either griping wind pains or teething.
have you tried c+g comfort milk...its good and you make bottles up as you need them. it helps aoife when she had so much wind. also the gums could be very sore...maybe starting the long process of teething. try teething gels like bongela..rub on gums 5mins before feeds.
also have you thought about trying some milky based foods like baby rice or rusk off a spoon...if your worried about his milk content. or perhaps its too early.
re: how much they need i am not sure. but c+g live chat could answere that one also the helpline..both very good and helpful..ive used them countless times.
have you tried the browns bottles for windy babies...they are also fantastic. also cooler milk if its teething.
good luck. x
Hi thanks very much for your advice will try changing his milk over the only prob is that he has been so used to SMA and it's the only formula on the market i believe that dosn't contain prebiotics. Went to baby clinic today and they think there is a possibility that he is acid reflux so will take him to the gp to get checked out. Have been using browns bottles for quite some time now they are brilliant aren't they. Also I didn't realise that if you give infacol before a feed that you have to do it all the time, at one point I thought the infacol was making him sick so didn't give it to him but have learnt my lesson now. Is aoife sleeping through the night yet?
Thanks for replying x
she has been sleeping through the night now since 3months when the colic had settled down and she moved from comfort to stage 2 hungrier babies. also establishing a set routine has also helped.
ouch acid reflux ive heard is rough on them. i know they prescribe infant gaviscon but not sure how good that is...but yeah it could be a cause of your probs. good luck with gp. sorry cant be of much more help. fiona and aoife
