Feeding problems and questionsCow & Gate Comfort Milk
Within the last two days I've changed my 11 week old sons milk from SMA Gold Top to Cow & Gate Comfort Milk due to him being windy and sicky. It's a lot thicker milk which seems to be helping him drink more as he would only drink 4 ozs but his wind absolutely stinks and his stool only just made his nappy this morning, disgusting. I was just wondering whether this would continue ie the stinky wind and disgusting stool?? I really don't want a stinky baby, I'm hoping I've made the right choice in changing my sons milk. Oh . . . the milk states it's for colic and constipation, my son has never suffered from constipation, is this the right milk for him?
Any suggestions?

Hi, my name is Trudy and I work on the Cow & Gate Careline. The Comfort formula is for colic and/or constipation and even though these are only minor medical conditions, we always advise to get your health visitor or GP to diagnose your baby first.
Smelly wind and loose stools are normal on the Comfort (if the wind was trapped inside your baby's tummy it would be causing them a lot of discomfort). Comfort has a special fat blend and contains oligosaccharides. We also partly break down the protein so it's done some of the job for your baby already and this can make the stools green in colour too, but this is perfectly normal. Your baby should still thrive on this formula and put on weight well.
If your healthcare professional thinks this is the right formula for your little boy, we always advise to give it a good couple of weeks to see the true benefits. If you have any further questions please contact our Careline and we will be more than happy to help you further.

hi, my little girl is 4months old and has been on c&g comfort since bein 3 or 4 weeks old, he wind really smells and her poos are a khaki green, really loose and smelly. is this normal??? she was put on comfort because she had colic ? x
yes that is normal for comfort milk. they will be like that because comfort milk stops constipation (as well as colic) therefore resulting in softer poo.
thanks lol, i tryed putting her on bk on normal milk but it didnt agree with her, thanks for ur help xxx
I know what you mean its awful isnt it?! You dont expect to have to open the window when your bundle of joy has wind lol. Dont worry it does get better. The smell and consistancy of her poo will improve after a while. If she is happy on that milk then stick with it x
Hello, My baby is 5 weeks old and I ve been using the Comfort milk for about 2 weeks. My babies poo is green and very watery. Is this normal? He seems to be in a lot of discomfort with his tummy too? Can anyone help.
Thanks Angela
It would be normal for it to be green and loose but not very watery and he shouldnt be in any more discomfort than you would normally put down to wind. Are you using the comfort milk because of colic or constipation? If it was for colic then it might be worth considering that the symptoms of colic can similar to lactose intolerance. Some people say that they are really the same thing but I'm more in the camp that its two different things that similar but often confused. Did your baby have runny poo before you started the Comfort? If so, then that along with colic symptoms would possibly point to lactose intolerance (not to worry, its very common and usually temporary) if not then its possible that the comfort is just upsetting his stomach for some reason. Either way as your baby is in discomfort I would go to your GP or health visitor for advice as soon as possible x
Hello, after speaking to my health visitor he has not been given a lactose free milk to try for 2 weeks. Fingers crossed this will work. I changed him to the comfort milk because of colic and the runny/watery poos came bout a week after.
Just hoping this new milk works as hate seeing him so upset x
Hi, my 4 week old seems to be having these symptoms, well except for colic, but he's being exclusively fed expressed breastmilk. He's just had an hour where he was sick, had a really runny poo, been sick again... i dunno, i worry about him, im seriously thinking about going onto formula, do you think this woul;d be a good idea?
I think I would have a visit to the GP or health visitor before you change to formula. Just to double check its not a tummy bug or something else. Has it always been like that or has it changed? If your thinking he has a milk intolerance changing him from breast to normal formula will make things worse. It would be better to get medical advice first to confirm things. If your GP does think he is lactose intolerant then you can either switch to a special formula or adjust your own diet to dairy free and keep breastfeeding.
