General baby healthvicious cycle - antibiotics/thrush
Hi all,
Due to a recent infection in the still not healed stitches (baby is 4months old!) I was prescribed antibiotics. Daughter reacted quite badly, tummy aches and throwing up a lot. To make matters worse she then got thrush in her mouth which she passed on to me.We seem to have gotten rid of it on mouth and nipple but she still has a bad rash.
Also I was told by GP that I have it down there as well now. She prescribed canesten and yet another antibiotic...will that not just start the whole thing all over again?
Should I maybe stop breastfeeding to spare my baby the antibiotics? Also is na ppy rash cream really sufficient for treating a rash caused by thrush?
Argh what a mess :-S
hi!
i totally sympathise with u on this when my oldest was 3 weeks old i was rushed to hospital becauise i had a very serious pelvic infection due to burst stitches. i was put on terribly strong antibiotics. i was still breast feeding. this meant her and i both got thrush (mouth nipples and downstairs) luckily my infection did clear up but because my daughter was struggling to suckle properly because of her mouth being sore and my nipples having thrush on them my milk actually dried up. i think this was due to the fact that when she got thrush my ownderfully unhelpful clueless HV told me it was thrush it was milk. it was definately thrush it was literally ALL OVER her mouth and throat it looks like mould on bread doesnt it? and it was peeling off and everything so bad bless her so we didnt realise straight away until it had covered her mouth and by that time the damage was done with regards to my milk.
i can see why u wud want to stop BF because the thrush is so bad but i found that coloidial silver spray worked absolute miracles her thrush went away so quickly. its a natural antibiotic and i swear by it try using it on ur bits too nipples as well everything this stuff is amazing. look itup online it will explain better than i can.
also try using nipples sheilds for better suckling to prevent ur nipples getting thrush and to stop ur milk trying up from her not latching on properly.
hope this helps abnd hope u get better soon xxx
