General baby health

poorly baby for 2 weeks

my daughter is almost 9 months old and has had a bad cough and cold for two weeks now, she has been to the doctors twice, (second time she had gained a high temp and conjunctivitus) both times the docs said her chest was clear, we were given drops for her eyes the second time but they have more or less said they want her to fight it on her own to build up her immunity. on the second visit the doctor did say she had a really red throat and she has also been off her food which is unlike my daughter. I dont know whether to take her back a third time or am i over reacting?
generally she is happy in herself when shes awake, but still looks poorly and as i say isnt eating as she normally would. Can babys have antibiotics at 9 months?
And also, what age should i stop sterilising my daughters bottles?

they can have antibiotics from birth if it is necessary. my eldest was poorly at 2 days old and was readmitted to hospital and was on IV antibiotics for 3 days.

a cold is a virus and there is nothing a doctor can do to treat that. taking 2 weeks to get over a cold is perfectly normal. if she has a throat infection then antibiotics may be needed so it may be worth you taking her back to the dr just to get her throat checked over just in case it is infected.

regarding sterilising, you should keep sterilising until they are 12 months old. i did stop sterilising at 10 months with my eldest though and just rinsed her bottles through with boiling water before making her milk. she was only having 2 milk feeds a day by that point though so i didnt need to store bottles of cooled boiled water anymore in readiness for a feed. if you are storing cooled boiled water in the fridge in readiness for making up some formula then you must continue to sterilise for the whole time you are storing bottles.

Thank you!
I do think it may be her throat playing her up whihc is why she wont eat as normal, i will see how she is in the morning and decide from there.
My daughter has two feeds a day now, one in a morning and one at night, made fresh. I think i will continue to sterilise for the time being, its just nice to have a guide..
Thank you again x
