hello my 6 month old suffers with constipation and have tried the boiled water but doesn't seem to work. Was just wondering when using fresh orange juice do you mix with water and dilute it down?

i can totally sympathise. My son was really constipated from birth and I tried everything - orange juice, water, moving his legs like hes riding a bike. At some points I even had to hold open his bum then when the pooh stared to come out physically pull it out (sorry too much info i know!!!) In the end the doctor prescribed lactolose which he had 2.5mls twice a day. This worked for a bit then stopped. It got to the fourth day without pooh and took him back to docs and they gave him supositories. A bloody nightmare to get in but they did work. I was using them every 3 days then at 13.5 weeks I weaned Lewis. I know they dont say to do it until 16 weeks but he is a very large boy and it seems that milk wasnt satisfying him. Within a week he started poohing. Now he is 20 weeks and fully weaned and poohs at least 3 times a day!! what a change, always wanted him to pooh now i want him to stop!! Obviously up to mothers when they wean but it worked for me and Lewis. good luck! xx

Hi i have had exactly the same problem with my 6 week old daughter, we had to take her to hospital as she just would not poo and would not settle at all and when she did poo it was non stop. I also found that she was screaming in pain and drawing her legs up nearly all the time as she was so uncomfortable. I found giving her a warm bath worked a treat and if they are not sleeping because of it i found putting Katie on a pillow in the moses basket helped as she seemed much more relaxed.
I also found that if you put a tiny little bit more water in each feed say they are on 4ozs then put 4.5oz but only 4 scoops of feed as katie wont drink much cooled boiled water.
This did help as she was getting more fluid into her.
From the advice i have been given a littl bit of prune juice watered down works really well!
Lots of cuddles helped aswell and when she is constipated she seemed to settle much better on my shoulder.

hi, i am having the same problem with my 2 week old daughter, think it may be due to the vitamins that i have been told to give her as she is a small baby. just a quick question, does anyone know how often you should give them water with orange juice? seems to be working but dont want to give her too much or too little and be back to square one

If baby is breastfed they can go up to 3 weeks without a poo. My daughter just went one week without one .I used the cooled boiled water with orange juice thing and it did seem to work - we had a huge brown explosion on friday. I have heard prune juice is good too. It can't go on forever remember,
