Breastfeeding

so stressed

well, dylan has been biting me when feeding him, he drew blood a few times so now i have very painful sore inflames nipples (sorry tmi) he still wouldnt have formula so i expressed but blood was getting in the milk i have an infection so do said i cant feed him until its gone, anyway, i bought lots of cartons of different milks and new beakers, and he still will not have formula, he has not had a drink of milk since wednesday, maybe about 3oz, i have put some in his food and gave him plenty of milk based food, but he is so grumpy, routing for my breast and not sleeping in the night which is making me so tired for work, but i cant keep giving him breast, its really painful and not doing any of us any good, really hope he takes formula soon so i can dry out my milk, doctor said to put him on cows milk, but i really think 9.5 months is too early, maybe 11 but not this age, so he was no good lol.
sorry for rumble, am tired and sore and i keep getting told to stop moaning haha
hope everyone is ok xxxx

Hi Amy, sorry you are having more problems - how are you feeling otherwise?
If he'll eat weetabix and you heat the formula up really hot (but not boiling) and keep adding and adding you can get up to 8oz in one weetabix. Sorry if I've already told you head is a shed at the moment!
Did you ring la leche league? If not give them a call this must be a common problem and they may have some better tips and advice. I agree with you that 9.5 months is a little early to go completely onto cows milk, if they have it in large quantities under a year they can get digestive problems as it can irritate the stomach lining. Small amounts would be ok though, try giving him cheese sauces with food too.
Will he take any out of a cup at all? It used to take me half an hour to get 2-3oz down max when we first switched to cups and it was in front of the telly in his highchair with plenty of toys and distraction! Was a nightmare though.
Have you tried the tommee tippee tip it up cups? They were the only ones max would take at first with soft valved spout and then we switched to free flow cups when he was a bit older.
Fingers crossed you can find a solution soon! Try not to worry though I'm sure he'll be ok, you could always think about vitamin drops too - not sure if you can get ones with calcium in you'd have to look into it but I know they do make them for babies that are having less than the recommended amount of formula, I didn't know about them at the time. Also is it follow on milks that you've tried? We went onto the ready made cow and gate follow on milk - the extra iron would be useful as he's not drinking much - if you can get any down him of course! xxx

Hi amy,
is it the formulas he doesnt like or is it the feel of a bottle he doesnt like?
have you tried it cold and warm?
sorry for the questions, both mine are fussy and their bottles had to be a certain temp or they wouldt drink it.
have you tried using a syringe to give it to him like medicine so that he doesnt have to think about it too much and then once its gone down and its in his tummy he may have a different outlook on it?
its not much help hun sorry but i really hope it helps in some way cos ur not having it easy at the min xxx
