BreastfeedingPainful Breastfeeding
My little boy is 4 wks old and i've been breastfeeding since birth, though have also given expressed milk from a bottle a few times.I'm still finding my nipples are a bit sore when I first put him on,more so on the left side. The health visitor said this means he's not latched on right, though he does have a tongue tie and it could be due to this.(seeing someomne about that ina couple of wks) He's puting on weight ok and pooing/weeing lots,so obviously getting enough, but is it normal to still find it painful?Any tips/help/advice would be welcome,as I really don't want to stop breastfeeding.
yes it wil get better hun trust me it hurt me at the beginning it does make u want to stop but dont hun it gets better my lo is 6months and im still breast feeding and she latches on so easy nothin like wen she was first born even though she took to it great bt it so much easier and better as they grow up because they learn how 2latch on beter etc x
Thank you,I'll keep going with it.We are going to see the breastfeeding consultant on 13th Jan to talk about treating his tongue tie,so i'll see what she says and maybe getting that sorted will help too.
maybe try nipple sheilds?? x x
thats ok i didnt really find it painful only abit sore. ur doin well though hun x
Well done for breastfeeding and to keep going too!!!!!!! I'm a breastfeeding peer-supporter so i hope i can help you. The lact is the important part and once the tongue tie is sorted it will be easier. However there are a few things i can suggest for you. Make sure baby is pulled into you. Pull the feet and bottom in as much as you can. Sholders and hips should be inline if you are holding baby across your belly. the chin shouold be touching your breast and the nose should be free. The baby should also have some of the skin around the nipple in the mouth this is often more at the bottom of the nipple than the top. Good luck i hope this helps
Hi, i found it really painful, to the point i'd be in tears when a feed was due, my baby was definitely latched on properly, i had loads of midwives, hv's having a look whilst i was in hospital but it was just that my nipples had to be broken in a bit, it did take probably well into the 4th week before i was really comfortable with breast feeding, i was so so close to giving up but i really hated the thought of having to sterilise all those bottles haha so i carried on feeding through the pain but once Isla got the hang of feeding it became painless, i'm still exclusively breast feeding now and she's 21 weeks, it will definitely get easier for you once your little one gets the hang of it, keep it up and good luck, Sian xxx
