breastmilk donations

Does anyone know how or where you coud donate breastmilk?
I called my local hospital but they said they wouln't accept it.
I am breast feeding, and I pump an extra pot of milk every day. I keep some of it for if I need a babysitter, but I am getting a huge overflow in my freezer that I will never get through.
I'm sure there are babies out there who could need it and it would be a shame to let it go to waste.
Any ideas?

I don't really think you can. If you have that much in the freezer it is great, it lasts for three months. I know it is a waste, but I think you might just have to throw it away, sorry xxx

maybe you could ring the NHS and ask if there is anywhere near you that would accept it, you have to have tests and stuff to donate it to make sure you are suitable and have no infections/diseases,and im pretty sure they will only take what you express there and then for them,as milk from home could be contaminated. keep trying hun as breastmilk banks can be invaluable for premature/intensive babies x x x

Yes you can I have been considering this too I found this site today
http://www.ukamb.org/home.htm it gives you addresses of milk banks that might be able to collect it, it says you need to have a blood test first though and you have to be a non-smoker xxxx

Hi I donate milk to my local hospital, you have to have blood tests like you do when pregnant and are screened before you can donate. I express and freeze the milk, they come and collect it when I need some space in my freezer!!

i looked into this when i was pregnant the first time but i didnt have a great deal spare most of the time but i saw some of the premature babies that it helped and it was heart breaking to see them but amazing to hear how something as simple as that improved their chances substantially
