Breastfeedingbreastfeeding out????
hi girls just wanted to know how do u manage to breast feed when out and about? i wanted to express some milk for my daughter when were out but the midwife was really funny about me expressing! whats rong with expressing at least im feeding my child the natural good stuff. so just wanted to know how do u manage it out? and whats rong with expressing? me and my partner dont want other men perving or anything x
Hi, they tell to not to express til breatfeeding is well established because using a bottle can confuse a young baby - however I supplemented my son with formula from a bottle from him being 3 days old and he managed to do both til about 6 weeks when I stopped. Don't let the mw put you off if thats what you want to do but just be aware that your daughter might have trouble breastfeeding and bottle feeding - its because its a different type of sucking.
It depends where you're going tho cos a lot of places have mother and baby rooms where you can go and breastfeed - men aren't allowd in. I know what you mean though I always worried that I wouldn't be able to find somewhere private.

hi, ive just stopped breastfeeding my son - hes nearly 11 months now. i was worried about feeding him out, and did used to express. as the post above says you need to get breastfeeding established before you express - they recommend 6 weeks. but i used to find it more hassle to express and try to give ben a bottle of expressed milk - he would only take it warm and it was pot luck if he'd take a bottle!!! loads of places have feeding rooms, all dept stoers. mothercare, shopping centres etc. once you get the hang of baby latching on and feeding youll be able to do it discreetly. the odd time i had to feed him and couldnt find a room, no one even noticed what i was doing anyway. good luck wtih it, and dont worry about what other people think x
hiya.. i have breastfed both my 10 and 11 year old and am now on my 3rd who is 4 weeks old.. i've always worn loose tops that can be discreetly pulled up once u have baby in position. Its the most natural thing in the world so be proud of what u are doing! As far as expressing goes i'm unable to comment as i have never got on well with the pumps.. good luck with the open air feeding thow! x
Hello,
My son is 5months and im still just breastfeeding him!
when he was young i used to get a large celluar blanket, tuck one corner into my bra and then the rest of the blanket to drape over him andmy boobie, from about 4 weeks old i didnt bother with anything any more.
In my opinion if you are breastfeeding why should you be bothered about what other men are thinking? they are there to fed you daughter not for some dirty man to perv over, in my 5months of breastfeeding i have not one yes NOT ONE man woman or child stre at me coz i was feeding my son. people glance round the room and notice and they dont look again promise they wont look again men take a different approch to boobs full of milk- your not there to pose for page 3.
if you do express your baby may not take your breast again and only demand a bottle coz its easier for them to drink from, when a baby is breastfed they have extra fat cheeks coz of all the muscle they need and if they are not using their muscle all the time they wont be able to get the hind milk (food milk).
well i did use a blanket to cover up and breastfed her out somewhere quiet and a few ppl looked and didn look again and they were looking at me gone off. the post before mine seems abit like ur bein funny. thanks anyway girls for the replies :) x
lol how do you mean funny?
where i live we have a bf cafe and they produced a leaflet telling us all the places to go which was very helpful maybe u got something like that where u are ask hv or local childrens centre they a brillant source ofinfo
I agree with Archwire about mixed feeding, i used breast in private and at night and formula for out or when visitors were about.
At least you will be expressing and putting breast milk in the bottle.
I found it helped while breastfeeding was establishing to give formula as a top up, and so my breasts were more full for feeding if i alternated.
Its up to you and what you feel more comfortable with.
shaz x
