Breastfeeding

breast to bottle help!!

My little boy is 14 weeks old and has been breastfed from birth. I'm returning to work soon and need him to take a bottle but he won't entertain it. Have tried somebody else feeding him whilst im not there and he just cries and gags. Have tried breast milk, formula milk, different bottles and teats but to no avail. I'm starting to get a bit anxious now as my work start date is getting closer. Has anyone any advice?

Hi Lorraine,
I had this same problem with my first and it looks like my secondisgoing the same way.
I missed the bottle out and went straight to a beaker, try doing that it worked for me when nothing else did, just put you breast milk in there and see if that will do the trick but it might take a few goes.
Hope that helps good luck,
Lisa

Hi Lorraine, my son is now 6 months old and i have had the same problem with him since he was 5 weeks old, he took my milk from a bottle until this time and then refused. I tried every bottle and teat available and nothing has worked. Like you i was supposed to be going back to work last month, but had to put it back until he takes a bottle or cup. I used to be stressed out about it, but now iv'e realised that it will just take time and one day he will take it, i keep trying every day and hope that he sucks on the teat one of these days. Keep your chin up, i know how tiring it is x

Hiya!
I've used the Tommee Tippee closer to nature bottles with my son......have you tried them?
Try not to worry about it, your baby can proberly sense that you are tense about it at feed times.............
All the best

Prob not quite the same scenario as your lo as mine was a lot younger when she came off the breast (3 weeks) but i found she wouldn't take normal teats such as avent etc however the tommee tippee close to nature bottles have teats on them which are shorter and designed to be like the nipple, my daughter took straight to these, might be worth giving them a go, hope that helps, em x
