BreastfeedingBreast milk to Cow's milk
Hi there
my little girl is 10months now, has only one boob in the morning and both at night still. hubby and i are going away for 2nites just after her first birthday, and would like her to be off the breast by then and having cows milk, would prefer her not to have formula.
is it safe to start giving her a little cows milk after her breaky in the morning now, so she can get used to the flavour? Then i was thinkin when she just over 11 months i would alternate bedtime feeds from breast and beaker with cows milk.
any advice appreciated many thanks
hev and ruby
Although the world health organisation recommends breastfeeding for at least the first few years if you do want to stop i suggest doing careful research into your options before making the switch.ive read that there is blood and pus in cows milk, cows milk is designed to grow healthy cows not healthy humans.x
Hi there,
Cows milk isn't recommended for babies under 1 year because their tummies and digestive system are too delicate and still under developed so I would not recommend starting until she is 12 months. As for blood and puss?? pretty sure that by the time cows milk is filtered etc there isn't anything nasty like that in it!
I would definitely recommend formula if you want to get her off the breast now so you can be sure that she's completely ok and off the breast by the time you go away. It really will be much more suited to her tiny tummy than cows milk! Good luck x
You shouldnt give cows milk to babies under 1 as their tummies arent ready for it. However I can assure you that there is no blood and puss in cows milk by the time it reaches us! My husband worked on dairy farms for many years and knows everything there is to know about it. If a cow is bleeding and the farmer knows then he will carry on milking her but discard the milk. If he doesnt know then the blood taints the milk pink so even if he did try to get away with it the driver of the tanker that collects it will tell him hes not taking it as if it arrived at the dairy factory like that it would be the drivers job on the line. Its also the same for if a cow escapes and eat things such as onions. The farmer knows as again it taints the milk and is no good. Puss comes from when the cow has mastitus and it clots up in the milk. When the cows are milked the machine filters them out. Milk then goes to the dairy factories where my husband now works and everything is rigourously tested again for all of those things as well as traces of anti biotics and then its pateurised to get every bug and germ out. So please dont worry, there wont be anything nasty in it!
