you dont have to be breastfeeding to get mastitis. mastitis is a breast infection and can occur in any woman. but, if you are only getting it near a period then it is unlikely to be mastitis and is more than likely hormonal. if it was mastitis the pain woudl be there all the time and it would just get worse and worse until you got an abscess and then you'd be very ill
i had it shortly after freya was born and it took 5 weeks to get rid of the infection
best to get checked out though if you are concerned

its not the same as when i had it originally, but its the same sort of achey pain if that makes sense. i had anti-biotics for it and they worked fine, i just thought maybe it had damaged some tissue or something. im not overly concerned just thought others may have experienced the same thing xx

I had severe mastitis with no.1 baby had had similar pains for about a yr afterwards!! Dr said it was nothing to worry about!!
