my son alffie is 20 months old at the moment, now we ar currently in the process of weaning him off his dummy, but now my partner is suggesting tht we shud start potty training him. however, cus im at home with alffie everyday on my own and cus he's my first, i havent got the first idea as to where and how to start? i dnt even know if he's ready yet. but i dnt want him to be 1 of these kids who's in nappies forever if tht makes sense???
but i also dont wanna make him go thru too many changes in 1 go... he's alredy had his comforter taken off of him, and to a little person like tht, thts a major deal. can someone please help and give me a few ideas on potty training and wen to start? as i am compltely baffled!!!!
hi my name is athena and i have a ten month old son and have looked after my step daughter since she was a baby i started potty traing her around the same age as your little one and well i have got to say it went really well.i went out and brought a potty and a kids book how to use my otty and i showed her the pictures and said we you need to go for wee or poo poos then you sit on potty and eventually over time she did
Hiya. I have a 4 year old son and a 3 month old girl. If I was you, I would leave it a while as you are weaning off the dummy. Too many changes at once are too much. My son was two and a half when I potty trained him - the longer you leave it the easier it is as they have a better understanding of what's going on. It took my son two weeks.
What to do, is find a week when you have nothing else really going on and don't have to go anywhere much. When in the house, put pants on him. You may be changing every ten minutes on the first day so make sure you have loads of pants!
When he wets himself, take off his pants and sit him on the potty. Don't be annoyed with him but show distance so he knows it is not right to pee himself and won't do it to get attention. After a while he will get the hang of it. When going out, I put my son in pullups, making sure he peed before we went out, until they were constantly dry when we got home, then bit the bullet and put him in pants. Nighttime dryness takes a bit longer, but again just do the same as with going out.
Not everyone may agree with how I did it, but it worked for me. Good luck.
(Incidentally, my son learned to poo in potty quicker than peeing, because it feels nastier in pants than pee does)
