Doesn't Like 'Tummy Time'

My LO is 3 months old and I have read she should be able to hold up her head if laying on her tummy. I have tried to encourage tummy play, but as soon as I turn her over she starts to cry until I pick her up. I have tried it at different times of the day but with the same result.
I am trying not to be a paranoid or competitive parent, but friends' babies are starting to roll and hold their heads up with confidence, what should I do?

Hi sweet my 4th little one is nearly 5 mths, and only a few weeks ago did he lay on his tummy with his head up. he doesnt really like tummy time even now even though he sleeps on his tummy in his cot/moses basket, he is just starting to roll from back to tummy
he can get bottem half of his body over but arm is stuck to move fully over your little
one is still young to be doing all these thing as i say the age of my baby and also
my 3 other wasnt really doing this give it some time she will be doing all these things soon enough and dont worry what your friends babys are doing.
hugs xxx

hi hun, have you tried rolling a blanket up and putting it under her chest, to keep her head up but so she can play with toys ifront of her.
i have just bought a tummy time board from blooming marvellous which i think is fantastic, although my son can roll off of it when he gets bored.
my son has started rolling everywhere, hes nearly 7 month old and sometimes gets stuck on his tummy ans will start crying.
dont worry about it, just try and give your baby tummy time a few times a day.
what about putting your baby on her tummy and you lie infront of her, so she can see you??
hope this helps a little.sarah

my 7month old daughter can hold her head up but absolutely hates being on her tummy! my partner says she is lazy like me coz she'll cry & if we don't pick her up or she doesn't roll herself ova she will just lie there and put her head on the floor!! they all do their milestones at different times i wouldn't worry at this stage!x

Don';t worry hun, my lo didn't like laying on her tummy either, and she didn't start rolling over until just before she started to crawl at around 10 months, i know that's late but she was perfectly happy doing other things and no amount of trying would convince her otherwise, so i guess they will just do everything in there own time!!, all i can say is keep trying but don't get stressed if she continues to cry she'll do it when she want s to xxxxx

thanks everyone, you've really put my mind at rest. She's probably just lazy like me, I never crawled because if it wasn't in reaching distance I didn't bother!

try some side lying as a middle ground. I've been doing it with a rolled up towel by his back and a propped up mirror and a toy to play with. sometimes he rolls onto his front and is starting to fret a bit less each time.
