Allergies and intolerances

prescription milk

hi my daughter is 17weeks old.shewas 6 weeks premature.she was on cow and cate stage 1 but then we put her on hungry baby milk..her poo is like water and very smelly the docter done a stool sample but everything came back ok but they have put her on nutramigenAA..do anyone know anything about this milk or ever used it?

i havent used that milk, but it is for babies with cows milk allergies. interesting that doctor put her on it if her stool sample came back normal, but clearly something wasnt right for her poo to be like it was so perhaps there was just a small intolernace to cows milk and not enough to pick up in a stool sample?
out of interest, was her poo like that when she was on the stage 1 milk before you switched to hungry baby?

her poo was fine on normal cow and cate but shes a lil starver so we put her on hungry baby milk then she started pooing like water every other day but now she goes 6-7 times a day its everywhere its as if it explodes from her..my docters r crap so im worried that they have jus put her on this milk and i panic cus she was prem

well if she was ok on stage 1 milk, then given that is cows milk based i'd say it was unlikely that it is an allergy - how long was she on stage 1 milk and why did you change her over to hungry baby? the problem with hungry baby milk is that it isnt always necessary to use it - babies should be demand fed (and given your little one was premature, even more so) and switching them to hungry baby milk makes them fill up quicker and stay fuller for longer, meaning that they take less feeds so effectively and given it contains the same amount of calories as stage 1 milk, they are getting less than what they need. effectively your baby is only 11 weeks old so should still be in the demand feeding stage on stage 1 milk (unless she was taking a whole 8oz and then wanting more immediately after).

the hv told me to try her on hungry baby milk she is demand fed.she only drinks 3-4oz but because she putting on weight they are not worried every one u c in gps tells u diff things.she was on stage 1 till she was 9weeks she was feeding every hour so they told me to switch...im thinking of just putting her back on normal cow and cate and c how she does cus she will not take the milk they have given her

it does get difficult when you never get the same answer. my sister's eldest was 4 weeks prem (born weighing 4lb 10oz) and she was told to just give her whatever she wanted, when she wanted it, so they said that even if she wanted to feed every hour then do it (although she didnt, she fed every 2.5 hours) as she needed to catch up on her weight. she was also given a high calorie milk (oh, i forget the name of it now) to help. so it is interesting that they told you to feed her less by giving her hungry baby milk, given she was more prem than my sister's baby was and wasnt on a high calorie milk!
i think you need to be careful about switching milks too often as it does seem like it was the change to hungry baby milk that has upset her. i do agree though that if she was fine on stage 1 (even though she was feeding often), then put her back on it! as i say, stage 1 and hungry baby have the same amount of calories so she should still put on weight but she may want to feed more often. just make sure you dont keep changing after this time as you dont want it to upset her tum again.

i knew i'd remember the name of that milk when i'd pressed publish! she was on SMA nutriprem 2 until she was 1yr old to help her put on weight.

the docter thought that she was on special milk from neonatel cus she was there 4 2 weeks bein tube fed and recieving oxygen..she was shocked that they jus put her on normal milk..i jus dnt know wat to do shes only had 2 oz in 5 hours so i jus give her cow and gate hungry baby milk she enjoyed it and have now settled for bed..id rather go back to feeding her more often than her pooing so much..they told me not to give her any foods either

then i'd go back to a stage 1 if you'd rather feed her mroe often. 2oz in 5 hours at her age isnt enough. as i said, the hungry baby milk will fill her up quicker and make her fill fuller for longer, thereby meaning she'll take less at each feed and go longer between them. i personally, given the situation, woudl avoid using the hungry baby milk and just continue to feed her more often on the stage 1 milk.
no, she cant have food - 17 weeks is the earliest you can wean, but your baby isnt 17 weeks - she is only realy 11 weeks, so you need to hold off on solid food. plus when you do introduce solid food then you need to be very careful to get the balance correct as it can make their milk intake drop and you cant afford for her milk intake to drop.

omg my boys wer never like this they wer pretty much straight 4ward with feeding so never experianced anything like this..im guna put her back on stage 1 and c how she goes if shes still the same in a few weeks il take her back and ask to b seen at the hospital

good idea! as i said, some of this could be down to the fact that she was prem and possibly is now trying to catch up! just go with it, you cant go wrong if you just demand feed her as she wont let you! perhaps once she is old enough for weaning, things will settle down. x
