help, what could be wrong with my baby!!????

hi my baby started being really fussy over her bottle a few weeks ago [before this she was a good feeder, seemed to have colic though!], it's got to the point where she will only take about 3 oz every 4 hours during the day, at her 6.30 and 11 feed she takes more, 5-6oz [i think it's out of hunger, it's still a struggle to get her to take it though!] she will turn her head away from the bottle and try and hit it out my hand, cry and scream, she makes funny gulping noises. afterwards she gets a rattling noise in her chest and throat this can happen even a few hours after feeding, frequent hiccups and spitting up but rarely all her feed. also she coughs, wakes up crying for no apparent reason [ it's quite a pearcing cry] has terrible trapped wind and seems miserable most of the day [she has periods during the day when she is happy and smiling but they don't last especially after a feed]. i'm really worried, i've had her at the doctors on 5 occasions and they keep saying it's colic but i don't think it is, as it doesn't follow a pattern like colic, i suggested it may be silent reflux but the doctor didn't confirm of deny this and said as long as she is gaining weight steadily [which she is] what ever is wrong isn't a problem [i think seeing my baby in pain and discomfort a problem though!]. does anyone out there have any idea what could be wrong with my wee girl?? are the doctors right??or should i keep taking her back? any advice would be greatly appreciated as i'm at my wits end!! i changed her from sma gold to cow and gate comfort nearly 2 weeks ago but there's no improvement to her feeding at all, and she still has trapped wind, which seems even worse on this milk. help!, thanks, debbie, xxx

If it were me, i would keep going back and nagging the doctors, at the end of the day, you know your daughter better than anyone and you will know when something is wrong with her, and as for the doctor saying as long as she is gaining weight there is no problem i agree with you, if she is in pain and crying and vomiting all the time, then there IS a problem. My daughter was on comfort milk as she had issues with projectile vomiting and wind etc and my doc put her on Gaviscon in her milk, so maybe go back to your GP and demand that-it wont do any harm to her but it might just do some good.
Good Luck!!! XX

Have you tried c&g hungrier baby milk. I tried the comfort milk with my son it made him worse too. He has got better these last few weeks but his feeds were erratic. Do you find she is getting hiccups after a big burp? that is what i find with my son.
gulping noises - someone at the school my older children go to did suggest to me that perhaps i needed to get the next stage teats her daughter use to make all kinds of strange noises until she changed her teats.Something to do with she wasn't getting her milk fast enough.( i haven't tried this with my son though as i was worried that the screaming might of increased ). mum2milly was lucky to have such a good doctor by the sound of it my daughter use to projectile vomit with her colic for the first 3 months of her life and not once did any doctor or H.V. suggest any medication and they haven't this time for my son. I'm just hoping it ends soon as he is nearly 3 months now.
Good luck hope that whatever you do or try works. I know it's not easy.

hi..if you really worried id keep taking her back to the docs, do you have to see the same one or can you see another doc??also what bottles are you using???I have used and found that the tommee tippee closer to nature bottles are the best!!have you also spoken to a health visitor to see if they have any ideas???like vickyann has said in the above post what about maybe changing to the next stage teats??

Hiya, Is it possible that she may have an intolerance/allergy to milk, she may need a soya based formula but I wouldn't change unless you've spoken to a professional. How helpful is your health visitor? Can you arrange for someone to come to your house at feed time so they can see first hand how she reacts. If she's put on weight steadily though there is a good chance it's colic but this generally passes by week 12. I wouldn't change her milk again without speaking to your hv first. Take care. x

have you tried anything that can relieve colic just to kinda prove to docs its not.my LO always had a bit of wind trapped no matter what which gave her that rattle in her chest aswell.we put her on infacol and every now and again gripe water and it shifted it in no time.

that way you can go back and say look this is what ive done it hasnt worked and i would def recommend seeing another doc if poss.i know some can just think we are being neurotic or something.
hope things get better

HI hun, go back to your doctor / hv, just because she's putting on weight, doesn't mean she should suffer, i'm hoping that she's better now if not take her back and don't be fobbed off!!...Good luck hun xxxx
