My baby girl is 6 weeks tomorrow and has not been right since birth. At first I fed her on Cow and Gate Premium and although she was very settled in the day she would scream in pain all night. My Midwife suggested putting her on Cow and Gate Comfort as she sounded as if she had colic. We started her on that and gave her infacol which appeared to settle her at night. However, she was very constipated and although she emptied her bowels every day we would have to help her as the stools were so hard. At 4 and a half weeks this eased up and her bowels have been very loose since. However, for the last 2 weeks she has been very unsettled in the day and cries alot in between feeds as if she is in pain. This escalated last week so I tried her on colief in the comfort milk which hasn't seemed to help. She screamed so much over the weekend that I took her to hospital. They could not find anything wrong apart from bad oral thrush which they said could cause discomfort. I am still convinced that there is something wrong - either silent reflux or an intolerance. They said as she was thriving and putting on weight that they did not think it was either reflux or an intolerance. She has the following symptoms: she possets 2 or 3 times after each feed a watery substance (although does not vomit), she pulls off her feed sometimes as if in pain and sometimes coughs as if the feed is going down the wrong way, she can scream terribly in between feeds, she is very flatulent which has a very offensive smell, she gets terrible hiccups, she is very unsettled in the day but sleeps all night and now is sneazing alot and is very hoarse for some reason (like her voice has gone). I am at the end of my tether as it seems like the health professionals are not listening to me. Please help.
See your doctor if it is silent reflux and it sounds like it could then they can give her a medicine called reditadine ( sorry proberly not spelt right) it helps with the acid that can come up, also we found dentinox collic drops were better then the others perhaps a combination would work for her, but defiinatly go to your doctor. My lo had Reflux for an early age, where she would be projectile sick, and didn't have a priblem with the acid (silent reflux). Let me know how you get on xxxxx

hi both of my kids have had reflux, my youngest is 9 weeks and she started at 1 week with it. having been through this before i thought no way this time, my friend told me about seeing a craniel osteopath, i did and it was the best thing i did. the crying stopped within 2 days! my daughter now goes weekly but they say some babies only need one or 2 sessions! well worth a try
your dont put colief in comfort milk as there is no lactose in comfort milk!! start using DR brown bottles as this will reduce the air being trapped in her stomach. i dont think there is any advantage to her being on comfort milk. put her back on the premium and put the colief drops in that instead. my baby has had the same problem and i switched her milk to comfort for a short time as well. ask your doctor for infant gaviscon as she definitely has a reflux and every time she brings up her milk it is hurting her . take my advice
I beg to differ. There is lactose in comfort! If you go look on the side at nutritional info, it says carbs, of which sugars and of which lactose. It does contain milk. The reason why its just supposidly better is coz its thicker so the baby drinks it more evenly so swallows less air, and coz its heavier, stays down better. Also the milk protiens are partially broken down hence the easier digestion. My ds was on comfort and it worked wonders for him. Dd is on it too but I also add colief which helps her pooh better but she still suffers badly from gass and wind. Now trying a lactose free formula to see if it helps.
