6month old baby who keeps being sick!!!!!

Hey everyone!

As the title says, i have a 6month old little girl, who for the past 8weeks is vomiting after her bedtime bottle!

It started when she had a cold which we put down to her catching a bug, it got no better after a week but was only after the bedtime bottle, she became poorly with this cold, lost her voice etc so when i took her to the doctors about that, i mentioned the sick and he passed it off as reflux and gave her infant gavison. That never worked and i just thought she is a sicky baby. But it now appears to be any time of the day she will be sick - generally after her bedtime bottle. But will be sick after her breakfast and sometimes after lunch too! I took her to be weighed last monday and she was 14lb 15oz, by thursday last week i had enough of the sickness and took ehr to the doctors in the evening and the doctor prescribed Carobel, this worked for Thursday night and friday but we are pretty much back to the same senario. Im more concerned about the bedtime sick as she will feed 5oz, stop to wretch and be sick which is pretty much the whole 5oz, have a little break for 20 mins, take the other 4oz, and bring most of that back up too! She sleeps through and is teething, she goes as stiff as a board even if she has got a lot of wind up, her nappies are horrendous - really smell as does her wind, she keeps getting a rash type on her face which goes by the time she goes to bed. Most evenings she brings back up what she has had throughout the day!
Sorry for rambling guys but i just dont know what else i can try, she is fine on her solids but as soon as she has milk it seems to upset her!
Have any of you experienced anything similar and have any advice or do i just have a sicky baby. As i said before, gaviscon didnt do anything to gelp her - if anything it made her worse!!!!! I cant take her back to the doctors until next tuesday as they will weigh her then and also to see if this carobel starts to work which so far it hasnt!!!!
Thanks guys for reading!

Hi Katie, I would get her back to the docs before then if she has lost so much weight and insist that they look for other possible causes. You must be so worried. So she lost over a pound in 3 days? I wouldn't wait till next week, and if the gp is no help then I'd think about taking her to a&e to be checked over there.
Teething can cause a bit of sickness, my son is not a sicky baby in the slightest but would throw up a tiny bit when teething but this is not normal, especially if she was ok till 2 months ago.
Another thought - sometimes after a baby has been ill they can develop a temporary intolerance to lactose/milk products - so she may need putting on a lactose free milk for a few weeks and if that sorts the problem out you can then start to gradually reintroduce her normal milk and dairy foods. Definitely suggest that to the gp when you see them but don't leave it xx

The more I think about it the more I think that that could be the cause, temporary lactose intolerance. It causes change in stools and rashes and even ezcema. It could just be a simple case of getting into gp (today if possible) and getting a prescription for lactose free milk.

i thought the same thing as buffy - lactose intolerance. definitely get back to the doctor asap losing weight that fast is not good. dont let them fob you off as there is definitely something not right there.

You can buy sma lactose free over the counter, but as this is only a guess and we are not medically trained I think you need to get her checked by gp anyway. However you could ring nhs direct in the meantime and explain the situation and ask if switching to this milk straight away would be a good move or not until the doctor can run tests.
Personally I think I would take her to a&e if you can't get in at the doctors given the weight loss as you don't want her to continue to lose at that rate.
Hope you can get this sorted quickly xxx

one more thought - did you start weaning at the same time as this started or was it just the cold that it seemed to coincide with? i'm guessing it's more likely that it's a lactose intolerance (given it seems to be mainly after herbedtime bottle) as even if you did wean at 4mths there isnt a lot of food they can have until 6mths in any event so i'd imagine it unlikely she'd come into contact with a food that disagreed with her 2 months ago but it's just another thought.

My baby is nearly 8 months old now and was sick at every bottle from birth and i had tried everything until gaviscon which worked FOr me and shes never been sick since.
I agree with buffy...it could be the lactose
Or...You could possibly try staydown milk, which is SMA Staydown and has a purple lid.The milk is of a thicker consistancy and you make is cold.Instead of shaking the bottle you roll it between your palms.
The fats in it settle different in babys stomach but with you saying shes wretching id definately quiz them...
My baby got taken into hospital with sickness them got treated for meningitis lumbar puncture and everything and went off her milk as soon as she got home for a few weeks so we had to put 2 extra scoops of milk in a a spoon of baby rice and it settled perfect.
dont hold back ring them up and tell them you want to be seen today or first thing in morning as your babys weight is dropping....
I hope you find a solution quick. xx

Hey everyone,
I took her back to the doctors and they told me i had to carry on with the carobel and that they would see me on the 27th Sept. Thurs 22nd sept, i ended up taking her to the out of hours doctors at hospital because of the amount of sick! It was unreal, the doctor there very kindly checked her over but wouldnt do anything about the sickness as it was ongoing with the gp (which is the reason we went in pretty much!!!!) however, he discovered that she has a very very nasty wheeze on the right hand side of her chest which is spreading over to the left hand side of her chest and she has been prescribed an inhaler! I told them that she was checked the previous thursday and it was clear but there was no way apparently that this came out in a week! So we have an inhaler and i am soooo shocked that it has actually working, the sickness has calmed dow - dont get me wrong we do still have sickness but not alot! I took her back to the doctor on 27th sept and he is convinced that the cough she has had is what is making her sick, she had put on quite a bit of weight within the 2 weeks so they are happy with her and they said to continue getting her weighed with hv and that i have to take her back to the doctors in a months time to see how we are getting on with the inhaler!
So thank you girls for all your help and comments, i really appreciate it! I will keep you updated on how she gets on at the doctors with the inahler review! Thank you all so much!!!!
