Advice and informationEstablishing a routine...any suggestions?
hi!
my little Lucie is now just over 6 weeks and has absolutely no routine to speak of what so ever!! now im not sure but im probably expecting abit much from a 6 week old baby.
i didnt realise how lucky i was and how easy my first was. she was in a routine by now. iv tried doing the same things i did with her, iv set her bath time and bed time as the same every night and iv tried watching her for a week and seeing when she eats how ofetn when she wakes up etc so i can try a routine on her needs. i dont believe that u can or shud force a child into an annutural routine.
unfortunately my personality means im a mega control freak, i thrive on routine and do not cope with the unknown very well. Lucie Aurora also has colic...all night! and it seems to be getting worse atm. she seems to wake about 10 for a bottle every night and then thats kind of it for the rest of the night. she doesnt actually have another bottle until 6am the next morning but she just fusses all night. im hoping getting a routine will hopefully make all our lives easier and might soothe her colic abit.
but one day she will eat every 3 hours then for a couple days itl be the sma ehtne shel eat every 2 hours then shel go for 4 hours....aaaurgh i just cant seem to get a routine going.
any suggestions? or am ijust being abit hopeful so early on and i should just wait abit longer?
hi candice
i think you are expecting too much at the moment. with her feeding not be consistent, you wont be able to set a routine. you are better off to just go with it at the moment. once her colic settles, she may be easier to get into a routine. do stick with the bath, bed routine as that will help but just let her feed as she wants to during the day.
i hope you are feeling better. x
yeah i was afraid u might say that lol. atm im ok just taking one day at atime. my OH has annoyed me this evening iv been doing house work running around looking after the girls and trying to make lasagne for dinner we have ppl coming round for dinner and everyone is demanding different times to have dinner. tom came home about 5 and what does he do? starts stressing because he needs to go to the gym and what tijme are we eating i cant possibly expect him to change his gym routine...AAAURGH so im getting the girls ready for bed and giving them dinner on my own stupid men!!! id love tohave 5 seconds to myself to go to the gym or just pee in private lol anyway moan over!!!
i know how you feel! i dont remember the last time i did anything alone either!
my day actually started off really well - this morning i actually managed to get breakfast and a shower all before 8am! normally it is a case of choosing between breakfast and shower as i can normally only manage to get one or the other! getting both is totally unheard of so i'm thinking i'm in for a good day! how wrong could i be...! freya is teething and she isnt coping as well with it as olivia did. she is also much earlier than olivia - she didnt get any teeth until 9 months old!
plus, i got a phone call from the pre-school just one hour after i dropped olivia off this morning - she had a temp of 39 and could i go and get her, well, of course i would. when we got home her temp was normal! i gave her one of her favourite cookies and she sat and held it for 45 minutes so knew something was definitely up and within the hour her temp was up at 38. gave her calpol and she sat and watched tv and chatted but was just generally quiet. she fell asleep at 3.30 but at 5pm woke up crying, i gave her the next dose of calpol and found her temp to be 39.7, so i'm panicking as that is getting dangerously high. i stick her in a coolish bath to bring temp down and sponge her down, she's crying, freya isnt particularly happy, adam is not home yet ...! anyway, liv had a bowl of porridge and her temp is now back down to around 37.5/38. it may well be a long night...! adam and i are ordering take away later once the girls are in bed as olivia isnt up to eating much so i didnt see the point in cooking for just me and adam. i'm quite looking forward to it as all going to plan, it'll be the first meal this week that i've either eaten or eaten hot!
poor olivia is she ok? high temps r horrioble katie either goes really high or really low. i remember once her temp went to 40.7 and she started spasming that was traight to a&e but no matter what they did her temp wouldnt go downa nd i thought she was going to properly fit then suddnely she was playing and laughing no temp at all...and all that from teething! she gets a temp. from EVERYTHING!
katie has a terrible terrible ear infection atm iv never ever seen such a bad ear infection before last week she was itchingher ear alot but didnt really say very much until she stayed at my mums and came back with dark brown wax crusted ll over her ear and she just cried all day i took her to the out of our sugery on sunday and they basically just said calpol and nurofen and some antihestamine they thin it might have been aggrevated by an allergy but its viral so no antibiotics. anyway monday morning she said her ear popped and its had this cr*p pouring out of it ever since literally dripping all on her pillow in her hair and now her skin around her ear is red and raw from constantly have rubbish all over it and shes crying alot. poor babythey still wont do anything but i was freaking out because my cousin was told she has glandula fever and she was with katie on saturday so i thought oh god she has that but luckily not!
last night lucie was so bad she just cried all night until 4am and then woke up at 6 wow i was at the end of my tether i actually had to go into katies room and remind myself why i am i mother how bad is that?and poor katie i feel like because she is so good its easy to just let her get onwith it like playing on her own or watching peppa pig lucie was fussing all day didnt stop until about 3pm but i made a huge effort to play with katie for ages i just put lucie in her chair and rocked her i thought screw it she is going to moan anyway!
