JulyMy baby has eczema - does anyone else have a baby with this and what do you do about it?
Hi everyone,
My 11 week old daughter has been diagnosed with dermatitis which the doctor said was a form of eczema common in babies. She's been given oilatum to bathe in, and Aveeno cream to be rubbed in a few times each day. I was given hydrocortisone for her initially which made her skin lovely and clear, but I can't apply it to her anymore as it is too strong. Since then I've been using the Aveeno cream twice a day on her but her skin is still very dry and scaly. I'm breastfeeding except for 2 feeds daily (lunchtime and bedtime) when I give her formula. The dermatitis started when I was exclusively breastfeeding so I don't know if there's anything I'm eating that is affecting her. I've tried keeping a food diary but can't seem to identify anything specific.
Has anyone else's baby or child got this condition, and if so, do you know what triggers it? What creams/lotions etc do you use and do these help keep it at bay? Do children grow out of this or is it likely she'll always have it? And finally, are there any washing powders/conditioners that are better to use than others? I've been using non-bio since before she was born.
Sorry for all the questions but any help, advice or similar experiences would be really helpful! Thank you.
I know it was a long time ago that you had your problem with your babies skin has it cleared up now? Because my boy had very dry skin and I changed my soap powder to tesco's naturally and it cleared up.
Hi cleopuppy,
my baby has eczema and I have been using all the usual lotions / creams but never really thought about my washing powder. What were you using before you switched? I use fairy non bio powder and comfort pure fabric softner. Thought this would be mild enough?
