When the most important things in your baby’s life are feeding and sleeping, it’s no wonder they aren’t born with perfect vision. In fact, at the start, they can only focus on objects close up - like your face when they’re feeding. But it won’t be too long before they’ll be able to enjoy a bright, colourful mobile and eventually recognise you when you walk into a room. Remember, if you have any questions about your baby’s development, just get in touch.

Your newborn’s eyesight is quite blurry. They can only focus on objects 8 to 10 inches away – roughly where your face is when you’re feeding or holding them close. It’ll take between 4 and 6 months before your baby’s eyesight is fully developed with depth of field and colour vision.
Between 1 and 3 months old their eyesight continually develops in quality and range, although it’s still quite limited. At this age they’re particularly drawn to 2 things: the human face – especially yours – and almost any moving object. Hanging a bright, moving mobile above their cot will encourage them to reach upwards and improve their hand-eye co-ordination.
